Start off hiking through barley and buckwheat fields and across Thorang Khola River via a suspension bridge. Continue with a gentle ascent on a wide trail through juniper forest and meadows to Khangsar, the last village in the area. You will notice the effect of the low oxygen level in your body while climbing, but a slow gradual ascent will make the going manageable. Reach Sri Kharka (3880m), tuck into a well-deserved hot meal and enjoy the serenity of the mountains as you prepare to see one of the great wonders of the world tomorrow.

Trip level explained

Level 5

Challenging

Much of this trek is within the capabilities of people with good fitness who are keen trekkers. Still, it is important to note that trekking at altitudes above 3000m/10,000ft is more demanding on the body than walking at low elevations.

Some training beforehand will help and we advise doing at least one weekend of back to back days walking. The guide will set the pace and as with all altitude treks, the theme is ‘slowly slowly’ to help you adjust to the altitude.

What will I need to carry?

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 20-25kg of kit so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 12kg per person). You will only need to carry a daypack with essentials in (extra layer, snacks, water, suncream, camera etc).

High Altitude Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations at or above 4500m. At this altitude some people may experience symptoms associated with Altitude Sickness (opens in new tab), also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). The likelihood of more severe conditions, such as HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema), increases at higher altitudes. Previous experience at high altitude is not necessarily an indicator of future performance. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with altitude by carefully managing the rate of ascent and the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided. Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover up to the maximum altitude visited on this trip as well as emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

Highly Remote Environments: Factors to consider

This trip travels through very remote areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited and evacuation may take a significant amount of time. In some locations, medical facilities may provide only basic treatment, and further travel may be required to reach a hospital capable of providing more advanced care.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, evacuation may involve multiple stages and different forms of transport before reaching appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may be unreliable for significant portions of this trip and communication may rely on satellite devices carried by your guides.

Your guides are trained and experienced in operating in remote environments and will manage the group carefully throughout the journey. However, due to the remoteness of these locations, access to external support may be limited and delays to medical care should be expected.

Before booking, consider your personal health and comfort travelling in locations where medical care and evacuation options may be limited or delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling. If you have a medical condition that may require rapid access to specialist care, regular monitoring, or emergency treatment, this type of remote travel may not be suitable without careful planning and medical advice.

Your travel insurance must cover the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation.

Food and Dietary info

Breakfast is usually either hot porridge, muesli or Tibetan bread served with an omelette or boiled eggs. The menus in the teahouses are very similar at every stop and there will usually be a choice of traditional Nepalese dhal bhat (a mixed plate of lentils, rice, vegetables and pickles – delicious and healthy!), momos (Nepalese dumplings), mixed noodles, pasta and even pizza. Although meat is available at some teahouses, we suggest you ask your guide for their advice, as it tends to depend on how far it has travelled as to whether it is a safe option.

Dairy-free, vegan or vegetarian diets can be catered for while trekking although meals may get a bit repetitive – dhal bhat will likely be your go-to staple. Gluten-free/coeliac diets are tricky to cater for on teahouse treks (beware that powdered soups and seasonings used often contain gluten, and cooking oil is commonly reused and may cause cross-contamination). Please explain your dietary requirements to your guide so that they can assist when ordering, and bringing along some extra food/snacks is advisable.

What an incredible experience! This trip exceeded all my expectations, even though it was my second time visiting Nepal. Everything was so well organised, and the support throughout was exceptional. Our lead guide, Pujan, was absolutely fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, felt safe and were well looked after throughout the trek. The assistant guides, Resham, Iswor and Surya, were equally amazing, keeping our spirits high, setting a great pace and making sure we stayed hydrated and motivated along the way. A huge thank you also goes to the incredible support team – Tik, Saroj, Bir, Suresh, Sujan and Roshan – who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure all our belongings arrived safely and on time at each destination. Their hard work certainly didn’t go unnoticed! The whole team made this experience truly special, and I can’t thank them enough. An unforgettable adventure and a genuine trip of a lifetime. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

Due to landslides in the area we Didnmt do the Annapurna Circuit, we were moved to the Annapurna Base Camp trek. The team were marvellous and there was very little time delay in decision-making. Safety first and we were all glad that we were able to do a wonderful trek. The whole team, Lead Guide Pujan, Assistant Guides Resham, Iswor and Surya and the amazing support team, Tik, Saroj, Bir, Suresh, Sujan and Roshan were all very responsive and looked after us exceedingly well. It was a wonderful experience.

We originally booked to Trek the Annapurna Circuit, however we learnt on arrival in Kathmandu a typhoon hit late in the year, causing devastating floods and landslides and the circuit was closed. On the Sunday morning we awoke and we were unsure if our trip was going ahead. This is where we experienced out first encounter of MBA and their partners Freedom Adventure's outstanding customer service. First they re-organised our trek to the Annapurna Base Camp and because that is only 10 days and not 13 days hiking, threw in a safari at the end of our trek for some much needed and very welcomed R&R. In addition at their own cost they arranged flights for us from Kathmandu to Pokhara, avoiding an 8 hour road trip we would experience at the end of our tour and one which if a flight had been possible (all seats were sold out) I would paid to return on. Anyway just an incredible start to our trek and a fantastic response from MBA and Freedom Adventures. This simply highlighted the level of customer service for the whole time we were there. Pujan who lead the team was always on hand, as he said 25hours a day. Reshom, Iswor and Surya were outstanding as guides, setting a great pace & assisting where required on the trek and always there to help at meals whether its filtering your water, getting drinks, snacks, we just had to sit there and relax although of course there was the small fact of having to walk 110km and over 7000m of climbing. Now, this trek may be 4 star rating but the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is not to be underestimated. There is a lot of climbing and lot of early starts. Day 1 there is the small matter of 3200 steps up...that's over 1 hour straight up. Yes you get breaks but the fitter you can be the better. You will enjoy it much more. And this is where I have to praise the Support Staff (or porters but that word really undermines their role). They carried two kit bags plus their own bag, that's over 30kg. Lets be clear, no-one on our trip (and there were a couple of very fit people) could have done this trip without them, even if just carrying their own kit. These guys allow us to visit these places and without them, these holidays would not be possible for the average person! They are incredible. Again always greeting you with a smile, always saying good morning ( they are typically up before 6am and gone by 7ish) just outstanding and worth every $ of their tip. If you got this far, thanks for reading, so to finish with a few words on the trip. It you have never been to Nepal, the place is incredible, the scenery is breathtaking and the scale and size is extraordinary. We will definitely be back as I need to complete the Circuit. Now to start the training.......

My partner and I booked onto the Annapurna Circuit Trek as our first trip to Nepal and first time hiking at altitude above 2500m. Unfortunately, the late monsoon and subsequent issues it caused meant we could not safely trek the circuit. Freedom Adventures and MBA were incredibly responsive to what was happening, constantly changing plans and eventually swapping us onto the Annapurna Sanctuary route with bonus of the Chitwan safari. The scenery on this trek was breathtaking, reaching a high point at Annapurna base camp with 360 degree mountain views. We were lucky to hike with an amazing group of people including the fabulous guides and support staff from Freedom Adventures. Pujan lead us expertly, giving assistant guides Resham, Iswor and Surya opportunities to set the pace and support us with their smiles and laughter. The support team of Tik, Saroj, Bir, Suresh, Sujan and Roshan carried our bags effortlessly up and down the thousands of stone steps. Nepal is a beautiful country and I'd love to return to explore more of it. I wouldn't hesitate to book with MBA and Freedom Adventures, they were simply the best!

Our Annapurna Circuit trek turned out a little different than planned due to a storm that rolled through the country, but our guide Kush kept us safe and informed, and kept the jokes rolling the whole way. Kush’s leadership throughout our adventure was exceptional. And a special shout out to assistant guide Ananta, who sprinted back to Manang to secure our accommodation when an avalanche meant we had to turn around. Even though we didn’t make it over the pass, I was nonetheless in awe of the beauty we did see throughout our journey. The Freedom Adventures team and fellow trekkers made this an experience of a lifetime.

Due to the landslide situation in Nepal when we were due to do the Annapurna circuit our trip got diverted onto a different itinerary. We ended up doing the Annapurna sanctuary trek and chitwan safari. So I can't review the circuit itself. The landslide which killed any reasonable chance of being able to start the circuit happened on day 2, mid way through the same day the lead guide Pujan had organised the diversion of our trip onto the sanctuary trek. Absolutely amazing service from Pujan and Freedom Adventures. Pujan and his team of assistant guides; Resham, Iswor, Surya along with the support staff Tik, Saroj, Bit, Suresh, Sujan Roshan were simply superb. Logistics of bags couldn't have been better. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were a very friendly team. They were very knowledgeable and looked out for you. The group had a great dynamic and many laughs were had Overall despite the disruption from the landslides I had a simply brilliant time and will be back to do another trip. Finally I would recommend when trekking in Nepal to have Veg Dal Bhat everyday. But only once per day, I had about 14 Dal bhats in 10 days of trekking and it was bit much.

We had originally booked to do the Annapurna Circuit but due to the floods at Manang and Chame, our lead guide Pujan had to rapidly change our plan. We ended up doing the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek and a safari at Chitwan. It was so impressive how quickly the alternative trip was arranged. It was a beautiful hike with incredible views at Poonhill and Annapurna Base Camp. The assistant guides, Resham, Surya and Iswor were so kind and helpful, and the support staff were fantastic, always smiling despite the weather sometimes being very rainy (Tik, Saroj, Bir, Suresh, Susan and Roshan). Pujan and his team paced the trip so well, and ensured we were all looked after. I’d highly recommend hiking in Nepal.

A truly life changing experience, the circuit is a beautiful route, but the support staff and guide made it a once in a lifetime adventure.

  • Joseph M.

Freedom adventures - led by Kush - did an incredible job. He was super knowledgable , fun, and kept us safe when we experienced a storm which led to avalanches in the area. MBA paid for helicopters so we could move on to a new itinerary immediately. Despite our trek being called off early, we still had a brilliant trip. We experienced a storm which created avalanche

Just finished a brilliant MBA / Freedom Adventure trekking the Annapurna Circuit. What a fun trip with a group of like minded adventurers. The trip was expertly led by Kush and his amazing team. A huge thank you to all the team for a memorable adventure. Namaste!

  • Our Annapurna Circuit trek turned

    Jill U. October 2026
  • Simply great trip although didn't actually do the circuit

    Timothy H. October 2026
  • Incredible experience

    Caroline G. October 2026
  • What a trip!

    Claire D. October 2026
A truly life changing experience, the circuit is a beautiful route, but the support staff and guide made it a once in a lifetime adventure.
  • Brilliant

    Joseph M. October 2026
  • A fantastic adventure!

    Chris S. October 2026
Just finished a brilliant MBA / Freedom Adventure trekking the Annapurna Circuit. What a fun trip with a group of like minded adventurers. The trip was expertly led by Kush and his amazing team. A huge thank you to all the team for a memorable adventure. Namaste!
  • Wow - what a journey!

    Toby E. October 2026
The MBA and local teams really delivered on this one - no words really to describe such an incredible trip that will be etched in my memory for life. We had all the weather could throw at us from storms to days of sunshine, nights under the full moon on the Himalayas and days under the sun out on the trails. Life in Nepal may not be the easiest right now but this trip was just the best. The people we met, the landscapes we moved through, the outstanding expertise and humour and warmth of our guides and support crew... wow. Nepal needs our love right now but don't you worry, she has way, way more to give back in return. Outstanding! Go!
  • Annapurna Circuit Trek – An

    Nicholas B. October 2026
Annapurna Circuit Trek – An Amazing Experience I had a fantastic experience trekking the Annapurna Circuit with Freedom Adventures Nepal. The trek itself was incredible and we were well looked after by Tika, Dilly and the rest of the team throughout the journey. Freedom Adventures - Guides, Porters and Organisation Tika was always on hand to help with any questions or requests and made a real effort to make sure everything was organised for us before we arrived at each tea house. I always felt that he was doing everything he could to secure the best accommodation available for the group. He also knew the route extremely well and was thoughtful about where and what we should eat along the way, recommending particular dishes depending on what was fresh and good at each tea house. His judgement was especially valuable towards the end of the trek. Bad weather disrupted our planned route on the final day, and Tika made the decision to take an alternative route back to Pokhara by jeep. After seeing videos of the road conditions the following day, I realised just how good that decision had been. I always felt that safety came first. Dilly, our assistant guide, was also excellent. He set a sensible and consistent walking pace, making sure that we did not overextend ourselves and that the group moved safely along the route. In the evenings, he was always there to help us at the tea houses with food, drinks and anything else we needed. The porters were great as well. They were always in a good mood, and the atmosphere across the whole crew was positive and encouraging. That created a really enjoyable environment for the group throughout the trek. Freedom Adventures also took care of the transport and logistics surrounding the trek, so everything felt organised from beginning to end. Accommodation Accommodation on the Annapurna Circuit is naturally fairly basic, which is part of the experience, but I was pleasantly surprised by the standard we had along the way. I stayed in a private room throughout the trek, and I always felt that Tika had arranged the best room that was realistically available for us at each stop. At a number of tea houses, we even had private showers and Western-style toilets, which definitely cannot be taken for granted on a trek like this. Considering how remote some of the locations are, I thought the accommodation arrangements were very good and made the trek considerably more comfortable. The Annapurna Circuit The Annapurna Circuit itself is spectacular. The scale of the Himalayas is difficult to describe until you experience it in person. Seeing 7,000-metre mountains for the first time was genuinely amazing. The landscape changes constantly as you progress through the trek. The route is a mixture of trails, mountain roads and small villages, becoming increasingly remote as you climb higher into the mountains. The hike up to the lake and the high-pass section were particular highlights for me, but almost every day brought a different landscape or type of terrain, which kept the trek varied and interesting. I had expected the circuit to feel more physically demanding than it did. It is obviously challenging, particularly because of the altitude, but many of the walking days are a manageable length. With a sensible pace and proper acclimatisation, I found it challenging without becoming overwhelmingly difficult. Overall, this was an incredible experience. I would absolutely recommend both the Annapurna Circuit and Freedom Adventures Nepal, and I would happily return to Nepal to do another Himalayan trek with them in the future.
  • Loved it despite adverse weather

    Eric M. October 2026
Unfortunately, we could not achieve our 2 goals (Tilicho lake and Thorong La Pass) due to unexpected weather difficulties but I still had a fantastic experience and the views were stunning. Kush managed to keep the trek exciting with a combination of great spirit and improvisation
  • Nepal is best time

    Polina N. October 2026
Our Annapurna Circuit adventure was truly unforgettable. From the breathtaking landscapes and incredible mountain views to the people we met along the way, every part of the trip was something I’ll remember for a very long time. What made the experience even more special was how incredibly well organised everything was. Every little detail was taken care of, and any potential issue was dealt with before it even had a chance to become an issue. We always felt looked after, supported and completely in safe hands. A huge thank you to Tika and Dili, who were absolutely amazing throughout the entire trip. Their knowledge, kindness, professionalism and genuine care made such a difference. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, happy and able to enjoy every moment of the trek. The Annapurna Circuit itself is difficult to put into words — dramatic mountains, remote villages, changing landscapes, incredible altitude and moments where you simply have to stop and take it all in. It was challenging at times, but that made reaching each new stage even more rewarding. This wasn’t just a holiday or a trek. It was a proper adventure and an experience I’ll never forget. An absolutely incredible journey from start to finish, made even better by an exceptional team. Thank you, Tika and Dili, for making it so special.
  • Wow

    Brad D. October 2026
What an experience. I have had an unbelievable time on the annapurna circuit. The views, the food and the company. And it wouldn't have been possible without our guides Tika and Dilli. Made our journey safe and nothing was too much. Also a thank you to the porters Purna, Santos, Khum and Bahadur who made the walk easier carrying my bag.
  • An amazing place & great guides!

    Dan B. October 2026
Tika, Dilli, Purna, Santosh and Kuhn made this incredible adventure amazing! Tika and Dilli (the guides) we so knowledgable and friendly (so we’re the rest of the team!) Couldn’t recommend it more

  • Thank you for sharing your home with us!!

    Anna N. May 2026
The Annapurna Circuit was an unforgettable experience, not only because of the awe-inspiring scenery but, most importantly, because of the incredible people who made the journey so special. The landscapes were breathtaking at every turn—towering mountains, dramatic valleys, and some of the most spectacular views I have ever seen. However, what truly made this trip deserve five stars was the warmth, kindness, and professionalism of the team that guided us through it. Our lead guide, Krishna, was exceptional. He led the entire team with confidence, care, and an excellent sense of humour that kept spirits high throughout the trek. He was always attentive to the needs of the group, ensuring everyone felt supported and included every step of the way. The assistant guides, Santosh, Aananta, and Kuruna, were equally outstanding. Each of them went far above and beyond what was expected, demonstrating remarkable dedication, professionalism, and hard work every single day. Their commitment to making the experience enjoyable, safe, and memorable never went unnoticed. I would also like to give special appreciation to the porter team. They carried far more than any of us while navigating the same challenging terrain, and they did it with smiles, positivity, and incredible determination. Their contribution was immense and deserves the highest respect. Throughout the trek, the entire team welcomed us with genuine kindness and generosity, sharing not only their expertise but also a glimpse into their homes, culture, and way of life. Their hospitality added a deeply personal dimension to the adventure that I will always remember. This was an extraordinary journey made possible by an extraordinary team. Thank you, Krishna, Santosh, Aananta, Kuruna, and all the porters for your professionalism, dedication, kindness, and hard work. You made an amazing trek truly exceptional.
  • Easy to recommend

    Susheel G. May 2026
I expected the Himalayas to offer challenges and beauty, and this more than lived up to anything I might imagine. Above and beyond this however, were Krishna and his team at Freedom Adventures, including Santosh, Ananta and Kuruna, who truly went above and beyond to ensure our group were well looked after and supported, through the various stages and always with good humour. Having been on other expeditions around the world I do not take this element for granted, and would urge anything considering the trek to feel assured when travelling with Krishna. From scaling 5000m to a frozen ice lake, to seeing yaks in the mountain valleys, eating dal bhat with good friends, and spotting new peaks emerging at sunrise each day, and relaxing at Pokhara after the exhilarating descent from Thorong La, I will treasure the memories for a lifetime. I'd recommend travellers to pack warm for the high sections, and not underestimate the cold, nor the level of fitness required. Some familiarisation with high altitudes would also be helpful as even the fittest may experience Acute Mountain Sickness. Good hydration is key!
  • Challenging but rewarding hike

    Inga M. May 2026
It is not an easy trek, with altitude creating serious risks, but I was rewarded with incredible views of the mountains everyday!
  • Best Trip Ever

    Andrew S. May 2026
I had the best time. I was in a a group with like minded people and we bonded very quickly. The tour had spectacular views and I was excited to begin every day. The guides looked after us very well! Krishna was very good at accommodating for all our needs!
  • Truly incredible

    Katherine R. May 2026
This trip was truly unforgettable! The landscapes were incredible and the people made it even more special. Our team, led by Tika and supported by assistant guides Resam, Birdhoj, and Nir, along with the porters, were exceptional. Their care, professionalism and commitment to our safety were outstanding from start to finish. Everything was well organised and we always felt completely at ease in the hands of such an experienced and supportive team. The itinerary was well paced, which helped minimise altitude sickness, and they handled difficult itinerary changes due to heavy snow with professionalism, expertise and calmness. Would highly recommend! Also pack plenty of sun cream and bring sunglasses or ski goggles for the high mountain sections!
  • Adventure of a Lifetime

    Iona G. May 2026
I had the most incredible time trekking the Annapurna Circuit with MBA. The views were breathtaking always, but what I didn’t expect was how varied they would be throughout the journey. From valleys and lush green forests, to rocky passes and snow-covered mountains, “wow” was the most common word of the trip. MBA sorted everything from the moment I arrived, and the guides and porters were second to none. Special mentions to Krishna, Santosh, Aananta and Kuruna who safely and expertly guided everyone throughout the journey - and answered all of our questions, no matter how silly! The porters were also excellent and quick to offer assistance if any of the group were struggling. A special mention to Raju who went above and beyond repeatedly. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. If you’re looking for incredible views, a reliable and friendly team, and to meet likeminded people then this is it. I promise you won’t regret it. Thank you MBA and the whole team!
  • Epic Adventure!

    Jessica M. May 2026
This Annapurna Circuit trek with Much Better Adventures was one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences I’ve taken on (and also one of the most rewarding!). What truly made the trip exceptional, though, was the team. Our lead guide, Krishna, along with assistant guides Santosh, Aananta, and Kuruna, and our porters Raju, Balkrishna Surya, Sujan, Rabin, and Kudan, were simply outstanding. Krishna set the tone for the entire experience. Calm, steady, and deeply experienced, he made us feel safe and confident every step of the way. His leadership created an environment where we could push ourselves while knowing we were in incredibly capable hands, and his care for both the group and his team was evident throughout. Santosh and Aananta were both exceptional throughout the trek. Consistently attentive, thoughtful, and deeply in tune with the group. They set a great pace, kept spirits high, and struck such a strong balance of professionalism and warmth. Their presence made a real difference on a trek like this and I hope to see them leading trips of their own in the future. The entire team worked seamlessly together, always one step ahead of our needs and bringing levity to what was a beautiful yet demanding couple of weeks. The porters carried the heaviest load, both literally and figuratively! We could not have done the trek without them. Their strength, kindness, and constant positivity never went unnoticed. Raju was especially present and helpful on the trail outside of his porter responsibilities. The team’s dedication made it possible for us to focus on the experience itself. I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to complete this trek without them or the awesome group of individuals we had. The trek itself was epic and the circuit provides such diverse landscape day to day. And the mountain views!! If you’re considering this adventure, know that you’ll be in incredibly capable hands and meet some amazing people.
  • Magic trip

    Aurimas N. May 2026
We recently completed the Annapurna Circuit trek, and we are very happy with organizing team and our guides. From day one, the entire trip was handled with professionalism, care, and flawless organization, making this an deeply satisfying and stress-free adventure. Our leader, Krishna, was outstanding. His deep knowledge of the mountains, trail conditions, and local culture added immense value to our journey. We admire his very good sense of humor :) He managed the pace perfectly, checked on everyone’s well-being daily, and made us feel safe and confident through every high-altitude pass. His leadership skills are truly top-notch. Santos and Lauri, along with the rest of the crew, went above and beyond to take care of us. We would like to return to Nepal treks with the same team once more!
  • One of the best trips so far!

    Simona N. May 2026
The whole tour was organized so smoothly — from the pickup until the end of the trip. Our lead guide, Krishna, and his team, Santosh and Aananta, were super responsible and made sure there was never a single moment to worry about, even about the weather :) We felt safe, cared for, always in a good mood, and well informed about each day’s plan. Definitely highly recommended! Thanks to the whole team, and I’m especially proud of the porters — the best team!

    Conor W. May 2026
Annapurna circuit trek was an amazing experience I highly recommend it to anyone looking to complete a quality long term trek! Much Better Adventures made it lot easier than going solo, met a great bunch of people and the guides Kevin, Dilli and Surya were a really good welcoming crew always there to help on the trek and evenings spent in the tea house. Really good guy, well experienced, great hospitality!

    Kevin B. May 2026
What a great experience! One that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Our guides Kevin, Dilli, and Suriya were excellent, always positive and uplifting, and handled everything deftly and professionally. They made even the hard days fun. The circuit was a wonderful mix of villages, woods, mountains, and many bridges showcasing the richness and breadth of Nepalese culture, ecology, and weather. The trek was well-paced, and the acclimatization well done. Very grateful to the MBA team for providing such a well-done trip. Namaste!
  • A superbly run Annapurna Circuit trek with outstanding guides

    Matthew B. May 2026
Trekking the Annapurna Circuit with Much Better Adventures was one of the most memorable journeys I have taken. The route moves gradually and powerfully through Nepal: from lower valleys and villages into a harsher, more elemental country of stone, wind, thin air, and immense mountains. The trip was very well organized, but never felt overmanaged. Much Better Adventures provided the right structure: clear logistics, thoughtful pacing, good communication, and a sense that the details had been carefully handled before we ever arrived on the trail. The guides were exceptional. Calm, experienced, observant, and deeply attuned to the mountains, they gave the trek its confidence. Their judgment around altitude, pacing, weather, safety, and group morale was steady throughout. At higher elevations, where small decisions begin to matter, their professionalism became especially clear. The support team also deserves real credit. Bags, lodging, meals, daily plans, and trail logistics were all handled smoothly. That kind of work often disappears into the background when done well, but on a long Himalayan trek it becomes the foundation of the entire experience. The Annapurna Circuit is demanding. It asks something of you physically and mentally. But that is also what makes it meaningful. This was not simply a holiday; it was a genuine mountain journey beautiful, humbling, and at times severe in the best possible way. I am grateful to Much Better Adventures and to the Nepal guide team for making the experience feel safe, well led, and unforgettable. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone looking for a serious Himalayan adventure with a company and guide team worthy of the landscape.
  • Wow!!

    Balaji M. May 2026
Booking this trip with MBA was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I truly do not think I could have completed this trek without the incredible support and encouragement from the guide team — Tika, Santosh, Isur, and Mohan. Throughout the journey, the guides were much more than trek leaders; they were a constant support system. When I developed a sore throat and cold during the hike, Tika recommended drinking ginger and honey tea and also advised us on foods to avoid to prevent getting sicker at high altitude. His thoughtful care and practical advice made a huge difference and helped me continue the trek comfortably. The guides also made the experience memorable in special ways beyond the trail itself. One of our fellow hikers celebrated a birthday during the trek, and Tika somehow managed to arrange a chocolate cake at a remote tea house in the mountains. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the celebration unforgettable. I especially appreciated how Isur paced the trek. He ensured that no one was left behind while still helping the group make steady progress each day. Santosh and Mohan were always positive, smiling, and ready with encouragement whenever anyone felt tired or discouraged. Together, the entire guide team created an atmosphere that was supportive, motivating, and genuinely enjoyable. Their experience, kindness, and attention to every member of the group made this trek an unforgettable adventure. I cannot recommend this trek highly enough. It is physically demanding and pushes you beyond what you may expect, but that challenge is exactly what makes the experience so rewarding. If you are considering this trek, prepare well, take time to acclimatize properly, and trust your guides — their expertise and support are invaluable. You will return not only with amazing memories, but also with a renewed perspective and a sense of accomplishment that stays with you long after the trek is over.

FAQs

The preferred currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Whilst ATMs are available in the main cities, please do not rely on them as they are often out of order and most have a maximum withdrawal limit equivalent to about £300.

It's best to bring the bulk of your money with you in cash, then exchange it at a bank or at one of the many money changers in Nepal – your guide can help you with this. Most major currencies are accepted, including GBP (Sterling), Euros and US Dollars, however Scottish or Northern Irish currency cannot be changed. Keep your exchange receipts in case you want to change any unused Rupees back into hard currency when you leave Nepal (it is illegal to export Nepalese Rupees, as it is a closed currency).

You will need to carry a fairly large amount of cash while trekking, for the meals (see 'Not Included' above). We advise that you keep this in a waterproof bag and in your day bag along with your passport.

We work with some of the best leaders in the industry. Every single one of them is government licensed and very experienced. In order to ensure guides’ high standard of performance, the host provides them with top-notch in-house training that covers Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, advanced wilderness first aid, hyperbaric chambers, oxygen systems, mountain rescue and incident management.

Although we schedule departure dates outside of the main monsoon season, weather conditions in any mountain region can be unpredictable and sometimes your host will need to revert to 'Plan B'. No two trekking seasons are the same but occasional landslides after Yak Kharka or heavy snowfall at Thorong Phedi or on the Thorong La are known to lead to trail closures on this route.

If the trail is closed or deemed unsafe, your host will organise an alternative trek – usually an extended version of the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (also visiting Australian Camp). However, if after you’ve set off on the Annapurna Circuit Trek an issue subsequently arises and you cannot cross the Thorong La, you’ll have to retrace your steps back to Taal.

At the end of the trek, a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara is included – if this is cancelled you will drive to Pokhara instead.

You can leave any luggage not needed during the trek at your hotel in Kathmandu.

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 20-25kg of kit so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 12kg per person). You will only need to carry a daypack with essentials in (extra layer, snacks, water, suncream, camera etc).

We’ve sourced some great optional activities for you to do in and around Kathmandu should you wish to explore that little bit further. Please discuss these directly with your host who will be able to book them for you.

Cook Like a Local: This short cooking workshop (approx. 3 hours) teaches you how to cook popular Nepali dishes like momos and dal bhat. You’ll meet your teacher and accompany them shopping, then head to the kitchen and learn to cook alongside them. Price: Pay what you think the workshop is worth!

Shop Local: A 2-3 hour guided exploration of the markets of Kathmandu. Prepare to learn about the vendors that line the crowded narrow alleyways and witness everything you could ever imagine being sold, haggled and bargained for. A great experience to learn about the melting pot of cultures that exist in Kathmandu. Price: $9-$50pp, depending on the group size

Master of the Arts: Patan Durbar Square is popular for its Fine Arts and this trip will explore the local factories where handicrafts are made. You'll visit 2-3 factories to learn about traditional processes and see art being produced. Price: $14-$59pp, depending on the group size.

Introduction to Shamanism: Shamanism, which is believed to heal many diseases, is not practiced widely these days however this trip enables you to meet a practising Guru and learn all about this age-old tradition. You'll visit a small house to have an introduction, followed by lunch and a drumming session where you'll learn the importance of rhythm pattern to healing. Price: $90-$150, depending on group size.

Lakeside Pokhara, with its laidback vibe, is a popular spot to relax after a trek. Although the tour starts and ends in Kathmandu, your host can arrange extra nights for you in Pokhara after your trek. They will simply shift your included bus transfer from Pokhara to Kathmandu and your final night's hotel reservation in Kathmandu to a later date for you, so you'll only need to pay for the additional accommodation in Pokhara.

Although most teahouses have the option to buy bottled water, we advise against it to reduce the use of plastic in the mountains (this ends up being burnt or dumped into landfill out of sight).

You will instead be provided with cold water that needs treating. There is a wide range of products available these days which are more effective than traditional purification tablets – some trekkers like to use handheld UV devices such as a Steripen but other options are available (just check their performance in freezing conditions).

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

This trip includes a domestic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Nepal's mountainous terrain and weather make for challenging flying conditions and sadly more incidents (including fatalities) occur here than in other countries. Since 2013 the EU has banned all Nepalese domestic airlines from flying within EU airspace in order to raise awareness of the poor safety record (although no Nepalese airlines were operating routes within the EU prior to the ban). You should be aware that flying in Nepal is an identified risk: please consider this carefully before booking. Additional information can be found on the Aviation Safety Network entry for Nepal (opens in new tab) as well as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office travel advice for Nepal (opens in new tab).

Domestic airlines in Nepal are generally not accredited by any internationally recognised safety audit systems and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of Western nations.

What does Much Better Adventures do about this?
Much Better Adventures collaborates with other UK travel companies to arrange for independent air-safety auditors to visit Nepal annually to assess the local airlines. Much Better Adventures then only uses the carriers that were approved as part of the most recent audit. If any concerns are subsequently raised about an approved airline between audits, we put them on hold until the auditors are satisfied that safety standards are being met.

Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover to the maximum altitude visited on this trip (5416m) as well as for emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

This trip reaches elevations above 4500m, where the risks associated with Altitude Sickness (opens in new tab) (AMS) are higher, and where more serious conditions like HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) can occur.

Previous high-altitude experience doesn’t guarantee the same reaction every time, but it can be a helpful indicator. It gives you insight into how your body might respond, helps you recognise symptoms early, and prepares you mentally and physically for the demands of high-altitude trekking.

Your guide is trained to manage altitude risk by carefully managing the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and taking action if anyone becomes unwell.

Before travelling, think about your own physical condition and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have underlying health issues. If possible, arriving a day or two early at altitude is a great way to help your body adjust.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with (opens in new tab). You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website (opens in new tab), where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).

For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information (opens in new tab) and also talking to a travel nurse.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

There are 3 different seasons for trekking in Nepal:

Winter (Dec-Feb): Despite being seen as ‘off-season’ this is often the best time to trek in Nepal. The nights can be very cold (down to -20ºC) but the trails are quieter and the mountain views are often at their best due to the clear sunny skies.

Pre-Monsoon/Spring (Mar-May): Temperatures rise significantly in spring and flowers are in full bloom in the lower areas. Although it can still drop below freezing at night, the daytime temperatures tend to sit between 10-15ºC.

Post-Monsoon/Autumn (Sep-Nov): This is the most popular time to trek in Nepal with generally sunny and mild days. It can get cold and windy at higher altitudes, however the skies are usually clear.

Of course, mountain weather is notoriously hard to predict and snow can be expected on any trip so come prepared.

As the Annapurna Circuit has wide trails, and much of it sits in a rain shadow, the summer months of June-August are still good for trekking. These months are a great time to have the trails almost entirely to yourself.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 570kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust (opens in new tab) to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre (opens in new tab) programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here (opens in new tab).
