Trip level explained

Level 6

Challenging-Tough

Full days of scenic hiking, loose footing, altitude - you'll need a good level of fitness for this one. The walking, however, is of a moderate difficulty and relatively straightforward and the views make the journey more than worthwhile!

What will I need to carry?

Mules will carry your main overnight luggage during the trek and you will need to carry your daypack with your daytime essentials (extra layer, snacks, water etc.). For the welfare of the mules, please ensure your main overnight luggage is in a soft-sided bag and weighs no more than 15kg.

High Altitude Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations at or above 2500m. At this altitude some people may experience symptoms associated with Altitude Sickness (opens in new tab), also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Previous experience at high altitude is not necessarily an indicator of future performance. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with altitude by carefully managing the rate of ascent and the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided. Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides cover up to the maximum altitude visited on this trip as well as emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

Highly recommend! Was an exceptional trekking journey through the Atlas with a fantastic group and a really good pair of guides Mustafa and Abdul. The trek was intense over the 3 days but well worth it. The accommodation at the refuge was basic but good enough for the purpose. Food was basic but ideal for the trek and abundant. Water was also easily available to top up. Loved the trip, super well organised and would definitely do again with much better adventures.

Fantastic trip extremely hard due to underfoot and the lack of time to acclimatise to the altitude People MUST have a really good level of fitness to enjoy the trip Guides are excellent and food throughout is great with plenty of choice and quantity provided

  • Michael O.

I really enjoyed the hiking trip. The guides were very good, the food was tasty and plentiful. It was a tough few days but still enjoyable. You won't get a lot of sleep in the mountain hostel.

Beautiful trekking through the high Altas mountains. Two nights in a refuge that was far nicer than any mountain hut I've previously stayed in. Incredible views of the milky way at night too. Food slapped (I'm vegan and was very happy with the catering). The guides (Mohammed and Mohammed) were very friendly and patient, I enjoyed their company a lot and I hope I see them again sometime in the future. The scenery was phenomenal. The two summit days were physically hard---long, steep, and high altitude, the second is especially and my calves were shot by the end of it. The first summit day had a scramble I would put at British grade 1 and it seems the route gets an alpine grade of F (facile) on UKC. The second summit day involved navigating down a very steep gravel scree slope. Someone without much mountaineering experience might find both of these activities very demanding and scary. Someone who has been lead climbing a few times will probably not be so worried.

I’ve just got back from this trip as a solo traveller at 19 and what an experience I had. The organisation, guides, food, and accommodation was so much better than I originally anticipated. If your looking for a challenge, meet like minded people, or just summit the highest point in Northern Africa then is the place. Highly recommend

My first trip with MBA and on my own, I had a fantastic time a met a lovely group of people. It is tough, especially the third day, but doable. The guides were very kind and helpful, and presented lots of options and adjustments for the group's ability. Plenty of food and water provided and lots of lovely mint tea! The accommodation at the Riad's was perfect, the mountain refuge is basic but ideal for what's needed, the (sometimes freezing) shower felt luxurious after a days hiking! It can be very noisy at night in the refuge so ear plugs are an essential, very warm in the rooms in July. Electricity comes on around 6. 30 till 10, so plenty of time to charge devices. Sleeping bags and blankets are provided. Would recommend anti sickness for the journey to and from Marrakech as the roads are very windy. I had such a great time and can't wait to book my next adventure.

Unbelievable adventure, amazing guilds and group I was able to experience it all. I want to say a big thank you to everyone, guilds, chefs, driver the whole team who organised everything. P. s don't pet the cat in the refuge 🤣. Thanks again everyone would recommend this to anyone.

I absolutely loved this trip. The group was great, mix of ages and people but we all got along. The riad staff in Marrakech was fab and very accommodating, our three guides Mustafa, Mohamad and Hassan were so knowledgeable and looked after us well. A slow ascend to Toubkal refuge with a stunning lunch stop made us all climatise to the hut above 3000m. Sunday was a great hike up to the sister peaks Ras and Timzguida and a tasty scramble up and down. More great food for lunch and dinner in hut. Then an early night for our room of 12 for a 2. 30am breakfast the next day and starting hiking at 3. 30am up Toubkal. Incredible route, steep, scree and colder every meter up. Stunning views at the top and a scree and steep descend. Break and early lunch before a warm and long 11. 5km down back to Imlil, then bus journey back into hot Marrakech. Excellent trip!

We had such a good time on this trip! It was really well organised and great value. The riad accommodation in Marrakech was beautiful, the mountain refuge was better equipped than expected and the food throughout was amazing - more than we could eat at every meal. Our guides were Mustapha, Mohammed and Hassan were great and really helpful. The hike was challenging but achieveable and we were made to take it really slow for the first two days to acclimatise to the altitude. The views at the summit were amazing!

  • Breathtaking Adventure with Amazing Guides and Amazing People in Our Group

    Rachael B. June 2026
I struck lucky with the people on this trip. Each one was very easy company, genuinely caring and full of fun. We gelled quickly and had a brilliant time. The trip shows you the colour and contrast of Morocco: walking from icy cold mountains down into 30° is truly an experience as was playing snowballs in Africa in June. The guides were what made it so very special. Their knowledge, skill and relentless hard work were wonderful. The Riad we had was fabulous and Mouna is a wonderful host. I had the best time.
  • Amazing

  • Moroccan Three Peaks!

    Christopher June 2026
A very well planned trip. Prompt pick up from the airport to a nice Riad where we could cool down in the pool before exploring Marrakech. Followed by 3 days of hiking with the best guides we could have asked for (Abdu and Hassem) couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
  • Not your typical stag do

    Mark W. June 2026
Absolutely hands down one of the best experiences from start to finish. Everyone who was involved with looking after us on our experience were amazing, the riad staff were great hosts and our guides were incredible! Their help, guidance and knowledge made the whole trek. They made sure we were all well fed and hydrated. Thanks to the cooks for the delicious food we had every day. Seeing the mules well looked after was really reassuring also. Definitely recommend it for anyone who's after stunning views and a challenging adventure!!!!
  • Three peaks challenge

    Raymond F. June 2026
Absolutely an amazing adventure from start to finish absolutely worth every single penny guides was amazing. Would absolutely recommend it to anybody. Absolutely anybody that feels they can do this trip……. . but please remember you are staying in very basic accommodations in the mountains and it is very very hard going so if you’re easily offended or moan a lot about the slightest thing, you will moan a about this trip because it’s not a four or five star holiday……. But that said I would do it again in a heartbeat because for the money it’s worth every single penny……. .
  • Top class, well supported adventure. Highly recommended

    Simon B. June 2026
This is an amazing adventure. The trek up to Mount Toubkal is breathtaking. How the whole three days is planned is top class with a "warm up" from Imlil to the base camp refuge and then a trek up to the two peaks and then a stunning night trek up Toubkal to see the sunrise before the trek down, lunch at the refuge and the long trek back to Imlil. It's well planned and well supported. You're fed well throughout and the guides are the stars of the show. With the added bonus of pick up from the airport and return or onto another hotel as we did. All absolutely top class.
  • Best trip ever!!

    Heather J. June 2026
Had the best time on this trip! Perfect challenge and great way to meet new people. The tour company were amazing and really accommodating and helped us plan/ and organise activities for our “rest” days. MBA answered all my questions prior to the trip quickly and reassured any worries I had. 10/10 would recommend and I look forward to booking my next trip.

I just want to say a massive thank you to much better adventures for the incredible experience of climbing the three highest peaks in Morocco. It was well organised, the food was delicious, the views amazing and most of all, the guides were brilliant!!!
  • Morocco, the mountains… an amazing adventure

    John F. June 2026
Cannot recommend the 3 Peak Challenge enough. From start to finish it was utterly incredible. Not only the landscapes, the hiking, scrambling & trekking in the snow but the people were awedome. Our expert guides: Abdu, Abdu 2 & Mohammed went out of their way to ensure our safety and enjoyment during the three days. They were phenomenal. There isn’t enough adjectives to describe how brilliant it was. The food was surprising amazing in the refuges also. There was tough points but a decent level of fitness will get you through the few challenging moments. Don’t even think about it… book it, do it, you won’t regret it. I highly recommend Much Better Adventures and will undoubtedly use them again in the not too distant futur.
  • Still Snow in May!

    Ben V. May 2026
A brilliant and really rewarding trip. The itinerary was adapted during the week so we summited Toubkal before the other two peaks to give everyone the best chance of reaching the highest summit, which worked really well. The final day tackling the other two peaks was definitely the toughest physically, but very worthwhile. We had a fantastic group of 14 people and, as a solo traveller, I found the social side of the trip one of the highlights… especially getting to know everyone in the packed mountain refuge! The guides were knowledgeable, supportive and managed the group really well throughout. Overall, an excellent adventure with incredible scenery and a great balance of challenge and camaraderie.
  • Amazing Adventure!

    Miss G. May 2026
The staff and guides at much better adventures and Aztat Treks were brilliant. They were really helpful and knowledgeable. Our group of 13 had an amazing time and felt safe and organised on our adventure. The food was brilliant, lots of it and catered for everyone’s tastes. The transport was always on time and the drivers were very informative of our surroundings. The accommodation was lovely and the refuge, though basic, was much better than I imagined and the guides on the trip couldn’t do enough to help out. I would definitely recommend, and I know I’ll be booking with this company again in the near future.
  • Morroco three peak challenge

    Andy H. May 2026
We had a fantastic time in Marrakesh, the traditional riads were amazing places, but more importantly lovely to stay in. The mountain guides were excellent, Mustafa and Kalib were always joking and watching the group as they should. Their instructions were always clear and sometimes firm but fair in order to keep everyone safe on the mountains. I am a fussy eater, but the food they supplied was delicious and there was so much of it we were literally stuffed. Due to snow during the night the pass was closed so we couldn't summit the last peak Toubkal. However; on the hike back to Imlil the guides were fully aware of our disappointment and showed us some beautiful sites. I would 100% recommend Mustafa's team if you are heading to Morocco to summit Toubkal, they will really look after you.
  • 3 Peaks Challenge - May 05 to 10th

  • Morocco 3 Peaks May 2026

    Jeremy W. May 2026
Absolutely fantastic trip with an amazing group of people. I went with a friend but would have felt very comfortable on my own as everyone was so friendly. There was quite a lot of remaining snow which made walking conditions difficult but made the challenge & the scenery even better. The tour guides were brilliant & couldn’t do enough to help. The refuge isn’t great, but the food was fantastic. Some dishes were of good restaurant quality. Not an expensive trip so great value for money. I would thoroughly recommend this trip with this company & these guides.
  • Fantastic time with fantastic people.

    Rebecca G. May 2026
Fantastic time with fantastic people. Very well organised. Our hiking group was of mixed ability and everyone was looked after very well. The guides and chefs were amazing and made it an unforgettable experience.
  • Amazing Trip and Physicality not to be underestimated

    Daniel L. May 2026
I had a brilliant time on the trip, and the group of people really made the experience. As my first solo group trip, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone along the way. The guides were excellent — friendly, supportive, and always looking after the group. The food at the refuge was also much better than expected, and the scenery was incredible throughout. I think the guides made the right decision to do Toubkal first, as I doubt as many people would have reached the summit otherwise. One area for improvement was the pace on the Toubkal climb. We moved quite slowly, which meant very late meals and only a few hours of sleep before the final day. An earlier start may have helped with recovery before the remaining peaks.
  • Mount Toubkal

    Danielle G. May 2026
WOW. This was easily the hardest mountain I’ve ever climbed. The days were long and the sleep was little (14 people in one room is a lot). The guides are absolutely outstanding. Their fitness level is something else and they can not do enough for you. The food is nice and there is plenty to eat. I never felt hungry. The trip is really well organised and I highly recomend this company.
  • Hiking good, food lacking

    Helen B. March 2026
The hiking and landscape were exactly as expected and well worth the trip. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the food provision as someone with coeliac disease. Despite asking twice prior to coming if they'll be enough for me (and despite bringing lots of snacks), on the day we did the twin peaks we were served pasta for both lunch and dinner with no gluten free alternative for me or another gluten free traveller. When I asked if it was possible to have rice, the guide smiled and told me we'd have rice tomorrow. The only food offered during the hike was a tuna sandwich, which again we couldn't eat therefore minimal carbs were eaten. This made the hike up Mt Toubkal the following morning more difficult than necessary as I'd had 24 hours with very little carbohydrate. Sleeping arrangements were also less than ideal with groups of people getting up at various points during the night to start their hikes rather than just sleeping everyone doing the same hike in the same room. Our group was very variable in pace and our 2 guides were not enough for 15 people. Sadly, based on my experience I am unlikely to recommend this company to friends.

FAQs

Absolutely! We recognise that you may want to leave some of the kit you bring to Morocco somewhere safe before you start your trek. When you reach Imlil, you will be able to leave any non-essential items you don’t want to take on the hike at your local guide's base there.

Your host works with muleteers who collaborate with local charity, Spana, (The Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature) on the AMI program (Aid to the Mules of Imlil). The charity provides training, guidance and incentives to mule owners to encourage and support good care for their animals in all aspects of their working lives. The program also provides a monthly clinic which offers free veterinary care to the animals and the distribution of humane tack.

Ramadan is expected to take place from 17th February to 19th March 2026. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.

This trip visits locations at or above 2500m, where some people may experience symptoms of Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Previous experience at altitude doesn’t guarantee the same response again – your body can react differently on each trip. However, having been at altitude before is still valuable: it gives you a better understanding of how your body might respond, what symptoms to look out for, and how to manage your pace and energy levels.

Your guide is trained to manage the risk of altitude sickness by controlling the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and responding appropriately if anyone feels unwell.

Before booking, we recommend considering your personal health, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions, and consulting a medical professional if you’re unsure. Arriving early to allow your body to acclimatise can also make a big difference.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).

For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

Spring and autumn temperatures in Marrakech average 10 - 25 °C, and it rains a small amount roughly 7 days each month. From June to September it gets quite hot in the city, averaging 15 - 35 °C, and it only rains a few days each month. In the height of summer, daytime temperatures in Marrakech have been known to approach 45°C on occasions so please ensure that you come prepared with sun protection, light and airy clothing and electrolytes/rehydration solutions if travelling at this time of year.

In the Atlas Mountains from March to October daytime temperatures average 25 - 30°C but it cools off considerably at night, and the higher you go the colder it gets (you may even need gloves on a summit day in August!) Nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing at and above the mountain refuge. Afternoon storms are always possible, but they are usually quick and generally don’t prevent anyone from enjoying the trek.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 222kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
