Detailed Logistics

Transfers

On Day 1, there is a fixed-time group transfer from Bergen airport to your accommodation in Voss. For the 2025 season, the transfer time varies throughout the season as it is planned to coincide with the scheduled arrival time of the Norwegian Air direct flight from London Gatwick (Flight DY1317).

PLEASE NOTE

  • For departures starting on Thursdays and Fridays between 27 June and 15 Aug 2025 inclusive, the transfer to Voss will depart Bergen Airport at 13:00. Any flight which arrives by 12:30 will be fine.
  • For all other 2025 departure dates, the transfer to Voss will depart Bergen Airport at 12:15. Any flight which arrives by 11:45 will be fine.

If you are unable to arrive in Bergen at this time you can still get to Voss via the train - see FAQs for details.

On Day 4, for all departures except those starting on Thursdays and Fridays in May 2025 a group transfer to Bergen airport is planned to coincide with the scheduled departure time of the Norwegian Air direct evening flight to London Gatwick (Flight DY1318). Please do not book a flight departing before 19:00.

  • For departures starting on Thursdays and Fridays in May 2025 the drop-off time at Bergen airport will be approximately 16:00, in time for any flight departing after 17:00. Please do not book a flight departing before 17:00. There is no direct evening flight from Bergen to London for these dates however there are usually indirect flight options with good connections (and a total flight duration of as little as 4hr 10 mins). Alternatively, you may want to book a post-tour hotel in Bergen/Bergen airport and take a direct flight the next morning.

(Transfer times will be updated for the 2026 season in October 2025, and may differ from the above.)

Travel options

There are regular flights to Bergen from major airports in the UK and Europe - either direct or via Oslo. If you cannot meet the transfer, it is very quick and easy to get the train from Bergen to Voss, or get a train all the way from Oslo. See FAQs for more details.

Trip level explained

Level 4

Moderate-Challenging

You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.

The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand metres in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.

The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.

What if i need to skip an activity?

There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords (opens in new tab) trip instead.

What will I need to carry?

For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

We had a fantastic 3 day trip with Chelsi . The kayaking and hiking was fabulous. . well organised and expertly led by our guide. Chelsi had enough enthusiasm to see us trough heavy rain and grey skies without anyone uttering a single complaint. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale a few days and forgot everything at home. I can’t wait to do it again and just hoping I’ll be lucky enough to get another guide as inspirational as her.

We had a fabulous holiday. So well organised. Chelsi our guide was unbelievable, so organised and kind, she even managed to provide a birthday cake with candles. She definitely made the trip. The kayaking was spectacular and the walk challenging but worth it. We were all nervous before the trip as it was outside our comfort zone but it was a trip of a lifetime. The rain made it more challenging but better. Take lots of layers as most things got wet and a dry bag for inside your day bag. Thank you Chelsi

This was a great trip a well oiled machine with excellent guides full of energy and enthusiasm. Can’t recommend enough.

Absolutely perfect weekend away! So fun and well organised, our guide Jordan made sure we had the best time. The group was super fun, the activities were amazing, the food was lovely and kayaking around the Norwegian fjords was just stunning and so peaceful. We even had rainbows and little bit of sunshine! Can definitely recommend and would 100% do it again

What an extraordinary trip!! We had a brilliant group of people and our guide, Tachelle was exceptional. She had to deal with so much - we had epic amounts of rain, we had to abandon our hike and abandon our wild camp, after it flooded. But Tachelle made all the right decisions, we ended up bunkering down in a little school house. Whilst it didn’t end up being the trip we all signed up for, it was still so brilliant! Definitely an adventure, and “type 2 fun” they called it. I would recommend anyone doing this trip to really know what you’re getting yourself into - it is not a holiday, and despite the guides feeding us brilliantly and bringing hot towels and things like that, you do need to be prepared to muck in and help the group. It’s an expedition, not a break. And despite going in august, the weather can do all sorts of wonderful things so do be prepared, with really good waterproof gear and camping discipline with keeping a set or two of dry clothes. The scenery was unbelievable, spectacular. The kayaking was really fun and a brilliant way to explore Norway’s beauty.

Great trip despite the amount of rain we had. Our guide Chelsi Williams was incredible, she really made the trip with her enthusiasm, information about the area and cooking.

Wow! A group of us booked this trip and I was not disappointed. It lived up to all my expectations and more. Chelsi was an unbelievable tour guide, great fun and very knowledgeable. She was like a dynamo, she never stopped. When we came back exhausted from our hiking day she was straight on to cooking our food, which was exceptional. Plentiful snacks, cups of tea and the magical warm flannels. The days were long and tiring, but the scenery was stunning. I would strongly recommend a night at the end in Bergen. We were tired, wet and a tad smelly by the end of the trip 😂 Checked into our hotel and I slept for 10 hours straight! Take lots of layers, everything gets wet and the inflatable travel pillow was great advice. Thank you for such a memorable experience, highly recommend.

Meticulously organised trip. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with warmth , enthusiasm and buns , before being guided through a well oiled process of ensuring the whole group had all the kit and information they needed . The kayaking and hike distances were challenging but achievable . Most significantly our group leader / guide had unbelievable energy , capability and social skills - Chelsi was wonderful

Awesome adventure ! Beautiful Norwegian Fjords and kind people A fun trip thanks to outstanding skills of Chelsi

Despite it raining the entire trip, had the best time. Our Kiwi Guide, Emma, kept all of our spirits high even as we slipped and slid on the Slog section of the hike, always having plenty of food and snacks, extra gloves and hats for when we were cold at the summit, and just generally being so positive and energetic. While we all would have loved some sun, the moody Norway vibes made the trip memorable. A few things I would 100% recommend bringing: eye mask, ear plugs, small inflatable pillow, backpacking sleeping pad (if you bring something relatively small, you can definitely fit it in your kayaking dry bag. As a side sleeper the mat they give you didn't cut it and my back hurt), extra socks, rain cover for your pack, small microfiber towel, gloves (for camp and for kayaking), beanie and a ballcap for rain. And check the forecast before you pack -- having some extra dry layers may be super helpful depending on the weather you get. It was crucial we all had rainproof pants and good rain jackets.

  • Incredible Trip

    Bethanie G. August 2026
What an amazing adventure. Just the right amount of days for me, and I liked how the activities varied from day to day (i. e. kayaking, then hiking, then kayaking again to give our arms a rest in the middle!). I would say I'm fit but not a regular hiker and have never done kayaking before, so the level was ideal. Our guide Ryan was lovely, patient and knowledgeable about the surroundings. We ate leaf stems that tasted like apples and blueberries coming down the mountain! The scenery all along the way was beautiful, despite the weather not being on our side. (Note: waterproofs are definitely needed. ) We were really well-fed and the food variety was brilliant. Also, the hostel in Voss is amazing and we had a great sauna/cold dip. We felt very secure and safe, knowing that the trip was so well organised.

The scenery was breathtaking, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Everything was well organised, from the equipment and food to the overall support. It was my first time kayaking, and I was a bit nervous because of the wind. But thanks to the guide's clear instructions, everything went perfectly. The views on the hike were some of the best I've ever seen. It was an unforgettable experience, and I would definitely recommend this trip!
  • 3 day kayak and hike, July 26

    Ann L. August 2026
Overall a super experience, all as described, pity about the weather. Highlights: The kayaking was super, awesome views, so peaceful, really enjoyed it. Emma took great care of us, she produced warm meals effortlessly, had us covered at every turn. The hike was beautiful, long but achievable. Loved my swim in the Fjord. Great company with the rest of our crew. Lowlights: Wind and rain don’t make good camping companions! But Emma did everything to keep us warm and dry. The long drop! The 3 days were as described, I’m so glad we did it.
  • Super amazing 3 day experience

Super amazing 3 day experience of outdoors . Stunning views, super friendly and organised. Challenging but doable for the less fit . Small group of fabulous people. Chelsi our guide was full of enthusiasm, charm and encouraging throughout. Her knowledge of the place, history, Norway in general was impressive. The food was in plentiful, freshly prepared and delicious. Early start that may be a shock to some. The toilets are as they are described, so be prepared !!! Thank you for a memorable trip.

  • An incredible adventure, with a few things to improve

    Katherine J. July 2026
It’s hard to know where to start with this review, because so many things about this trip were amazing! There was definitely some room for improvement too, but I hope Much Better Adventures and Nordic Ventures take these points as constructive feedback. We genuinely had a brilliant time, and with a few small changes, I think this could go from a great trip to an outstanding one. We did the 3-day Hike, Kayak & Wild Camp in the Fjords in July 2026. Booking through Much Better Adventures was simple, and we also upgraded to a double room at the hotel in Voss for our first night, which was an easy add-on. Before the trip - The pre-trip information was generally really useful, although we were told we would be added to a WhatsApp group, which never happened. I contacted Much Better Adventures and followed up twice, and was told it would happen 1–2 days before the trip, but it still didn’t. It didn’t impact the trip itself, but it did mean a fair bit of unnecessary chasing beforehand. It also wasn’t particularly clear that the trip is actually operated by Nordic Ventures, the local partner. We had been told someone would be waiting at the airport with a Much Better Adventures sign, so we and several other members of the group spent some time wandering around trying to find the right person. Eventually we spotted someone with a Nordic Ventures sign and worked it out, but clearer information beforehand would have made this much smoother. Kayaking & camping - Once we got going, the kayaking and camping itself was fantastic. The first day was tough due to strong headwinds, but the scenery was incredible and the whole experience of camping right by the fjord was genuinely magical. There was quite a lot of organising and waiting around at the beginning, particularly sorting gear and distributing food between the kayaks. Communication sometimes felt a little chaotic, with information being given in dribs and drabs, but once we were finally on the water, things settled down. The camping and kayaking equipment is definitely well-used, but it did the job. Our tent zip and sleeping bag zip were both broken, and the kayaking boots and jackets had seen better days (and definitely had a smell!), but we camp regularly and weren’t too bothered by this. There were also some lovely touches. Our guide set up lunch beautifully on the first day, with hot drinks available, and the next morning we were woken with gentle music and hot towels brought around to the tents. Those little touches really made the experience special. The hike - This is probably the biggest area where I felt the trip could be improved. The hike itself is challenging and absolutely beautiful, and I would definitely recommend doing some cardio training beforehand. Our group was generally quite fit, but the pace started very quickly and stayed that way for almost the entire hike. Myself and another member of the group began struggling quite early on. We also wanted to be able to stop occasionally, catch our breath and actually appreciate the incredible surroundings. Our guide told us that we would meet at the various gates, but after the first one, we barely saw him or the rest of the group again. There were a few short stops, but because we were arriving later than everyone else, we barely had time to rest or have a snack before we were being encouraged to move on again. Unfortunately, we didn’t feel particularly supported or encouraged when we were struggling. At times, it felt more like we were inconveniencing the group by being behind, which was quite disappointing. I’m not someone who expects a leisurely hike - I knew it was going to be challenging - and ultimately we completed it and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. But when you’re on a guided hike, particularly one advertised as a group experience, I think there needs to be a better balance between keeping everyone moving and making sure everyone feels looked after. The views from the top were sensational and absolutely worth the effort! The other concern was water. We had been told beforehand not to worry about water because there would be plenty of streams to refill from along the way. When we actually reached the refill points, however, we were told it was essentially at our own risk. This felt disappointing and, more importantly, something that should have been communicated beforehand. Had we known, we could have brought water purification tablets or another suitable solution. The hike took us around nine hours in total, including the short breaks, so clear guidance around water and a little more support from the guide would have made a huge difference. Vegan catering - I completely appreciate that catering for different dietary requirements on a wild camping trip can be challenging, and I went into the trip expecting to supplement my meals with my own snacks. However, this was probably the other area where I felt there was a missed opportunity. I was the only vegan in the group, alongside one gluten-free member and several vegetarians. There were several occasions where everyone else was given little treats or extras, while I was left out - despite there actually being suitable vegan food available. For example, the group had cookies and chocolate at the top of the hike, but I couldn’t have any. On the final day, we discovered that there was a food bag which actually contained vegan cookies, chocolate and soy desserts. It was disappointing to realise that these had been there all along when I had missed out on several occasions. Breakfast was another example. There was one carton of oat milk for the group, which had been used up within the first day because several people preferred it. This left me with very limited breakfast and hot drink options for the rest of the trip. The final morning was similar. Pancakes were made for everyone, but very little vegan/gluten-free mix had been prepared and one pancake was dropped, so I ended up having toast with peanut butter. It was perfectly fine, but after several days of kayaking and hiking, I would have appreciated a more substantial breakfast. I’d also love to see a little more protein in the vegan/vegetarian meals. The curry was delicious, but there was a huge amount of meat available despite almost half the group being vegetarian. Adding tofu, meat-free chicken, chickpeas or another protein source would be a really simple way to make the meal more filling and balanced. I really don’t expect a wild camping trip to provide a five-course vegan menu! I think this could be solved quite easily with better communication around dietary requirements and making sure the guide knows exactly what is available to each person. Overall - Despite these issues, we had a fantastic trip. The kayaking, wild camping, scenery and overall adventure were incredible, and Norway itself was absolutely spectacular. The things that disappointed us weren’t really the big things - they were the little details. Feeling rushed and unsupported on the hike, uncertainty around water, and repeatedly missing out on small treats despite suitable vegan food being available made us feel a little less looked after than we expected. With a little more attention to communication, dietary requirements and making sure the guide is checking in with the whole group - not just those at the front, I genuinely think this could be an exceptional experience. Thank you to everyone involved for an unforgettable few days. We really did have a brilliant time, and I hope this feedback is useful in making an already fantastic adventure even better!
  • The most amazing trip

    Stephanie H. July 2026
This is the best trip I have ever decided to go on, it had everything to make unforgettable memories. The views are stunning and being able to kayak through the fjords and wake up by them every morning just makes it even more beautiful. The hike to the Breiskrednosi summit was so rewarding, it was challenging at times but definitely manageable and so worth it. Our guide Ryan was an absolute legend, he took such good care of us, he kept up so well fed, gave us tips of all the adventures, and had the best eye sight to spot out the wildlife! I loved it, thank you.

  • Adventure of a lifetime

    Mona H. July 2026
I had the most incredible time kayaking, hiking and wild camping in the Norwegian fjords. It was my first time kayaking, but our expert guides made me feel completely safe and supported. Being out on the water, surrounded by the fjords with only the sound of the water around us, felt truly magical. The hike was challenging in the heat, but the spectacular views made it well worth the effort. Our campsite overlooked the fjords, and a refreshing swim in the cold water was the perfect way to end a long day. Our guide, Emma, also prepared some delicious meals throughout the trip. The group had a fantastic dynamic, and we shared plenty of laughs along the way. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.

Absolutely loved this trip! Stunning views, great food and so much fun!
  • 10/10 experience!

    Claire B. July 2026
I’ve never been wild camping before so naturally I was a bit nervous; but this was a 10/10 experience! Emma R. (British Emma) is an amazing guide!! She truly made the experience so smooth. She helped me with kayaking and pace ourselves for the hike! She was also a great conversationalist and would ask intriguing questions. I highly recommend this! A few tips/notes: 1) bring a camping pillow 2) there is plenty of good food! I was surprised how well we were fed 3) the weather is up in the air - we had perfect 75 and sunny weather but it rains often, so be prepared! 4) you’ll meet people from all over the world - the was my favorite part of the trip! 5) bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray
  • Stunning Norway

    Beverley W. July 2026
Overall the trip was really good, the scenery was absolutely stunning, made even better by the glorious weather we were very lucky to get. The camping was well organised & was in a beautiful location, glad I took my own airbed as the foam mats would not have been very comfortable & it was cold at night. The food was really good, I thought they catered for my food intolerances well & it was very fresh. The kayaking & hiking was great, views just stunning, would definitely recommend & do it again.
  • The best three days

    Katy D. July 2026
Our three-day adventure was an unforgettable experience! The itinerary was the perfect mix of challenge and fun, with one incredible day of hiking, two days of kayaking, and two nights of wild camping in a truly stunning location. A huge shoutout to our Kiwi guide, Chelsi, who made the trip so enjoyable. She was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing lots of interesting facts about the history of the surroundings throughout the trip. She was also a fantastic host—friendly, welcoming, and always making sure everyone felt comfortable and included. During the hike, she made sure the whole group reached the summit as a team and was the perfect photographer. Her positive attitude, great sense of humour, and ability to put everyone at ease made the whole experience even more enjoyable, especially as it was my first time doing something like this. I can’t thank Chelsi enough for guiding us, cooking for us and dealing with all our crap talk. She truly is invested in making sure you get the most out of the experience! The kayaking was amazing, the wild camping was a great experience, and everything was well organised. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better group adventure. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a fun, rewarding, and memorable outdoor experience!
  • Loved it!

    Rhiannon E. July 2026
Loved this trip. We were incredibly lucky with our guide Tachelle, who made the trip enjoyable for all - keeping us entertained yet safe throughout. The Fjords are beautiful, and kayaking through them is a real opportunity to experience them fully. The hike was long but enjoyable, and the view from the top really makes the day. Campsite was beautiful and the food provided is excellent. The trips rely on everyone chipping in and lending a hand which makes it even more fun as you grow a nice bond with fellow camp mates.
  • Amazing guide Ian

    Christopher M. July 2026
Was a great experience, guide was amazing, Ian got us all to the top of the mountain and we had a laugh while doing it
  • Majestic unspoilt scenery matched with the best way to experience ite

    Sarah J. July 2026
Once we arrived at the start point, all the logisitcs worked well with clear driection by our superb guide Emma R. Admittedly so lucky with thr weather, the majestic scenery unfolded before us and the three days proved a perfect combo of good company kayaking, walking and learning about this area and its culture. The wild camping worked smoothyl for such a remote location and group with mixed experience. The scenery and our fab leader were the most amazing input to make this experince so memorable.
  • Thanks Ryan :)

Thanks Ryan for a great trip! Also loving how you had time during that busy 3 days to make pancakes in the morning for the group. . . esp in the wild! Thanks for cooking, navigating and explaining all the necessary detail we needed to survive lol! Great trip!

FAQs

The trip will be split into groups of up to 12 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.

Our local host operates multiple trips starting on the same date, so for your included group transfers between Bergen and Voss, you'll share a coach. When you are dropped off at your accommodation in Voss, your host will let you know who will be in your group so you can introduce yourselves and perhaps grab some dinner together. On your first night, although the rooms at the hostel in Voss are multi-share, you won't necessarily be sharing with people from your group due to room configurations and gender mix. When you arrive at the kayaking base in Gudvangen the next day, you'll separate into your group of up to 12 and hit the water.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.

There are a plenty of kayaks available for you to use with a mix of single and doubles available depending on your preference.

You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.

Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.

Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:

From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).

From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.

Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.

You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.

Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.

For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.

We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:

Accommodation in Voss

Accommodation in Bergen

Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:

We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:

  • There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
  • We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
  • There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
  • We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.

Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.

The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20ºC, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15ºC) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.

In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
