Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Andalucía!
HotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Meet your host at Malaga Airport and be whisked off through some gorgeous scenery en route to your base for the first half of the trip. The Sierra de Grazalema national park is a beautiful region in the northeast part of Andalucia, with quintessential whitewashed villages nestle amongst lush green mountainous scenery. Check into your hotel and visit nearby Grazalema village, considered one of the most beautiful in the Andalucian sierras. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening and a chat with your guides about the adventures to come.
Day 2
Caminito del Rey
Hiking3-4hrs · 8km · 200m up · 200m downDriving2hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
You'll be driven a short while through lovely Andalucian scenery to reach the trailhead of the notorious Caminito del Rey. One of the most iconic hikes in Spain, it was once dubbed 'The Most Dangerous Hike in the World' with crumbling trails and very little protection against the steep drops below. Of course, this is no longer the case! In 2015, a multi-million Euro project to restore the Caminito was completed, and now a highly safe and secure network of boardwalks cuts through the El Chorro Gorge, high above the Rio Guadalhorce. You'll be fixed up with a safety helmet to protect against rockfall from above before setting off along the trail through woodland and along the walkways, now firmly secured to the cliff faces. The environment is incredible, with the gorge becoming so narrow at points you can nearly touch the other side, and a drop of several hundred metres to peer down over on the most exposed sections After your hike you'll head to nearby Ronda, a magnificent mountain-top town dating back to Moorish times which has inspired writers and artists over the years, from the famous Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, to Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles. Stroll around the town and grab a sundowner - there is the option to have dinner here if the group is keen as well. One of Andalucia's greatest cultural symbols is flamenco, and Ronda has plenty of spots where you can watch this evocative art form. The Casino de Ronda is a good option to try, with performances on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for €20 which can be paid locally.
*It's good to be aware that the Caminito del Rey is a very popular route which can get crowded at times. We operate this trip outside of the peak school holidays, so numbers will be lower during the dates this trip runs.
Day 3
Canyoning in the Garganta Verde gorge
Canyoning3-4hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Tuck into breakfast before you head off to Zahara de la Sierra in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Spectacularly situated on a mountainside overlooking the valley and lake below, it's one of the region's most stunning villages and the gateway to the Garganta Verde (the 'Green Ravine'), a hidden canyon 400m deep with walls covered in lush vegetation. The canyon's network of natural pools create an amazing natural adventure playground. After half an hour's hike you'll reach the the Cueva de la Ermita, an impressive vault in the rock. From here you'll journey deeper into the canyon where natural slides into the fresh, crystal clear waters await. There are several rappels to tackle, but your experienced canyoning guides are there to support you through any tricky spots, and there are several chances for epic pool jumps. Exiting the canyon after a wild few hours, you'll dry off and head for a late lunch (Spanish-style!) in a nearby village, with iconic Andalucian whitewashed houses set against a beautiful landscape backdrop. This evening your host will take you to a lovely local restaurant in Grazalema for dinner.
Day 4
Hike the Pinsapar Trail in the Sierra de Grazalema
Hiking5hrs · 11km · 700m up · 700m downDriving2.5hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
Bid farewell to your first base after breakfast today – it's time to head away from Andalucia's canyons and villages and further out into the wide, open sierras. You'll be tackling the Pinsapar Trail, a cracking half-day hike through a biosphere reserve. You'll start with a gradual ascent, eventually reaching the top of a ridge with views across to the dramatic peak of San Cristobal, the craggy buttresses of El Torreón, and classic white Andalucian towns nestled in the green swathes below. Take in the views before continuing along the ridge, descending into a dense forest to unique Spanish firs called pinsapo. Pinsapo can only found here and in the Moroccan Rif Mountain, which played a key role in this area being declared a biosphere reserve and natural park. In places, the forest is so thick that the light barely filters through the dense canopy, creating a unique and tranquil atmosphere (and some welcome shade from the sun). You'll tuck into a leisurely picnic lunch halfway through, and as the hike winds up after five hours or so, you'll settle into the van and hit the road for 2.5 hours to reach the Mediterranean coast. Arrive at your hotel in Conil de la Frontera, a small but vibrant beach town on the Costa de la Luz near Cadiz. Settle into a restaurant nearby for dinner and enjoy into the laid-back beach vibes.
Day 5
Kayaking in the Bay of Cádiz & Andalucian wine tasting
Kayaking3hrsHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Grab breakfast and squeeze in some beach time and a swim in the sea this morning before heading a short way up the coast to the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park. You'll be hopping into a kayak to explore the coast here; depending on sea conditions, you'll either kayak out into the bay to the island that houses the historic Sancti Petri Castle, or explore the protected network of the Sancti Petri marshes. Tuck into a picnic lunch on the beach and grab a swim in the Mediterranean. Later in the afternoon you'll head to a wine cellar in the cute town of Chiclana de la Frontera to taste the renowned wines of Andalusia, including those from the sherry-producing regions near Jerez de la Frontera. Back at the hotel, enjoy a free evening with your pick of the local restaurants and beach bars to while away the evening.
Day 6
Cycle the Costa de la Luz to beaches and fishing villages
Cycling3-4hrs · 30km · 230m up · 230m downHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 6 detailHide detail
Hop on two wheels today to explore a stunning stretch of the Costa de la Luz. The Trafalgar Lighthouse route starts at Zahara de los Atunes and winds you along the glistening blue coastline, cutting in land through sections of pine trees, passing dramatic cliffs en route to the iconic Trafalgar Lighthouse and the stunning Playa de los Caños de Meca. The going is mostly flat throughout, with a small bit of elevation gain and loss to cover in total. Enjoy another scenic picnic part-way along the circular route before finishing up at the beautiful beach of Zahara de los Atunes. Soak up the expanse of golden sands and dive in for a swim before heading back to the hotel in the mid-afternoon. After some downtime, head out to celebrate the end of an epic adventure in style as your host takes you to a tavern to tuck into a traditional Andalucian dinner.
Day 7
Adiós, Andalucia
Driving2.5hrsBreakfast includedShow Day 7 detailHide detail
The adventure comes to an end today as your host takes you back to Malaga Airport. It's a 2.5-hour drive, so you shouldn't book any flights departing before 13:00. The Cadiz coastline is a cracking place to add on some bonus time after the trip to explore Andalucia further, or to simply laze on the beach for a few more days.

FAQs
What if things don't go to plan?
Your host is an expert in outdoor adventure activities in Spain and have operated many trips for Much Better Adventures in various parts of the country since 2019. If conditions affect any of the activities on the trip, your host will rearrange the order of activities or make suitable substitutions where needed. The trip has been designed and the departure dates selected to take advantage of the best conditions for a smooth adventure.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
You'll have a main guide with the group from start to finish, and additional canyoning, kayaking and cycling guides will join the group for these activities during the trip.
Can I leave my excess luggage somewhere?
Your main luggage can remain at the bases in Ronda and Conil de la Frontera while you head out on each day's adventures. It will be transported for you from Ronda to Conil de la Frontera.
What do I do about drinking water?
The tap water on this trip is safe to drink. In Ronda the water is drinkable, but it's known as being quite hard and doesn't always taste nice. The majority of people, locals and travellers alike, drink filtered water - your hotel will have filtered water available to fill up from. You may also like to check out our article on the best water filters for adventurers if you wish to have filtered water on the go.
What type of kayaks are used?
You'll kayak in double-berth, sit-on-top kayaks which are very easy to navigate even for first-time kayakers. The water temperature in this part of Spain is comfortable all year round, so there's no need for full sea kayaks with spray skirts.
What is the size/weight limit of the kayak?
The full combined weight limit of a tandem sit-on-top kayak is 500 lbs / 226 kg / 35 stone.
What type of bikes are provided?
You'll be riding a hardtail mountain bike with front suspension and flat pedals. You'll be fitted for the correct size of bike based on your height.
Hot climate: what factors should I consider?
This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.
Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

What's the weather like?
We run this trip from April to June, and September to October. The peak summer months of July and August are uncomfortably hot for outdoor activities, and there are more tourists in Andalucia during those months, so we do not offer trips during the peak of summer.
April and October in Andalucia are generally mild and pleasant months to visit, with a mix of sunny days and the odd rainy spell. The landscape is more lush and green in the spring and autumn, making it a beautiful time to visit.
May, June and September are dry and sunny months to visit, with higher temperatures perfect for the water activities on this trip. See below for a summary of temperature deviations to expect, depending on which month you book.
April: average 15-20°C (59-68°F), with highs occasionally reaching 25°C (77°F) May: 18-24°C (64°F-75°F). Highs can reach 28°C (82°F) in inland areas June: 22-30°C (72-86°F.) In some areas, especially inland, highs can reach 35°C (95°F) September: 24-32°C (75-90°F). Coastal areas can be slightly cooler, around 22°C-28°C (72°F-82°F) October: 18°C-25°C (64°F-77°F). Nights become cooler, especially inland, with lows of around 12°C-15°C (54°F-59°F)
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 198kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
