Kick start your Azores adventure with a hike to Fogo Lake, following epic trails in the wilderness area in the centre of Sao Miguel island. Setting off from the north side of the island, you'll enjoy amazing views along the trail towards Vila Franca do Campo on the coast, as well as its famous islet which you'll be kayaking around later in the trip. After an ascent over open pastures, you'll descend down to the lake flanked by high walls of thick, lush vegetation until you reach the water. Enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch by this stunning lake before continuing the hike later in the afternoon. Finish the day with a sundowner on a local beach near your base.

Sete Cidades is one of the Azores' picture-postcard spots, and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. You'll explore this stunning geological wonder on two wheels as you hop on an e-bike, pedalling along easy dirt tracks to reach a series of epic viewpoints. There's a long ascent where your e-bike will be your aid to reach the highest spots before rolling along a summit rim and a fun descent back down to Sete Cidades village. In the afternoon, you'll hit the coast for a truly wild time of it in the Atlantic Ocean. Your expert guides will take you coasteering along this rugged section of coastline as you navigate the route by swimming, climbing and jumping from cliffs, exploring the ocean and the incredible volcanic rock formations.

    Show Day 4 detail

An unforgettable paddle awaits as you hop in a kayak this morning, setting off into the great expanse of the Atlantic bound for the iconic islet of Vila Franca do Campo. The islet is a marine protected area and was formed by a submerged ancient volcano – its flooded crater has formed a semicircle above the ocean's surface. Explore this incredible islet before kayaking back to Sao Miguel to enjoy lunch before a must-do Azores experience: witnessing the huge congregation of ocean giants in the waters around Sao Miguel on a whale watching trip. Settle on board and travel to deeper waters with a marine biologist for company to help with sightings. Sperm whales are a resident species in the Azores; while fin, blue, and sei whales migrate through the Azores and are often possible to spot at various times of the year.

    Day 5

Canyoning, wild swims and an Azorean barbecue

    Campsite
    Twin tent
    All meals included
    Show Day 5 detail

Head into one of Sao Miguel's canyons today: at either Salga or Salto do Cabrito, two of the most beautiful locations on the island and the scene for another amazing few hours of adventure. Spend the morning exploring streams, natural pools and waterfalls using different canyoning techniques, such as jumps (optional), rappels, and natural water slides. Dry off and enjoy lunch before heading to the north east corner of the island, creatively called 'Nordeste'. Here you reach your camp area in a beautiful spot with a nice stream nearby. With camp already setup by your guides, head off to explore the village of Nordeste to perhaps grab a swim in the local harbour, or feel free to relax at camp. This evening your guides are laying on a special Azorean barbecue to tuck into round the campfire, before a night under canvas.

    Day 6

Secret sunrise spot, hike to waterfalls and night-time hot springs

Embrace an early start today to catch sunrise in one of the best spots on the island at Ponta da Madrugada, waiting for the light to hit the dramatic coastline to kickstart another day in this beautiful archipelago. Grab breakfast in your host's favourite coffee shop nearby, before bidding farewell to Nordeste. Today you're tackling another hike, this time through Faial da Terra. You'll set off from the small village on the south coast and into the forested valley, bound for two stunning waterfalls: Salto do Cagarrão and Salto do Prego. Reaching each one you can spend some time taking in the spectacle and grab a wild swim (brace yourself, the water is very fresh!). Continue on to Sanguinho, a small rural village where the hike ends. Hop back in the van and head to your final base of the trip at Furnas. This is in the heart of the most active volcanic region of the Azores, home to over 30 geothermal pools and geysers dotted around the Furnas Valley. After settling into your beautiful hotel, you'll have the chance to head off to a nearby hot spring for a relaxing soak in the naturally thermal waters.

Detailed Logistics

Transfers

Your host will meet you on arrival at Ponta Delgada Airport on Day 1 to start your adventure. On Day 8, your host will drop you back at the airport in time for your onward flight. If you plan to extend your trip and arrive or depart outside of these days, your host can arrange airport transfers for an extra cost.

Travel options

There are regular flights to Ponta Delgada Airport from airports across the UK and Europe, while North American travellers can fly direct from New York, Boston, Montreal and Toronto. Lisbon is a common transit point if your flight route does not have direct options to Ponta Delgada. UK travellers: please note that low-cost carriers such as Ryanair (who offer direct routes from London to Ponta Delgada) release their flights less far in advance than the likes of TAP Portugal. If you are searching eight months or more ahead for flights, you may see the TAP flights via Lisbon but not the Ryanair direct options. In this case, you can wait until the Ryanair flights are released in order to book the direct flight option.

Trip level explained

Level 2

Easy-Moderate

This trip is all about a fun mindset rather than needing any previous experience or a high level of fitness. You just need to enjoy being active for a large part of the day, in an outdoor environment with some moments of adventure and adrenaline. The canyoning and coasteering on the trip don't require any huge fitness levels or prior experience, but a fondness for getting wet will help! Your expert guides are there to help on any sections where you might feel less confident.

What if i need to skip an activity?

You are welcome to skip any activity at any stage of this trip.

What will I need to carry?

Your main luggage will be transported for you throughout the trip and can remain in your hotel room whenever you are out and about doing activities. You'll just need a daypack of 20-30 litres to carry water, snacks and waterproofs each day.

Wildlife Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where wild animals are present in a natural environment, where protections and controls on their movement may be limited or non-existent. Some wild animals may be predatory in nature, poisonous, venomous or otherwise can be considered dangerous in a close encounter. Wild animals by their nature are unpredictable and visitors to their habitat should follow the safety instructions given by their local guide(s) and/or any signage present. It is a privilege to see wild animals in a natural environment and an experience that should be respectfully conducted at all times.

Climate Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where daytime temperatures can be extremely high during the times of year when this trip operates. High humidity and limited access to shade can also be factors, and warm temperatures can continue into the nighttime, which additionally influence the body’s ability to cool down. Personal care should be taken to keep as cool as possible in the conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing and proper hydration. Very high temperatures can impair an individual’s physical abilities to perform an activity that they may otherwise be able to do competently at cooler temperatures. People may experience symptoms associated with dehydration and Heat Stroke (opens in new tab). Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures, by carefully managing the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

First, I have to say that we absolutely lucked out with near perfect weather at the start of October. Teresa & Diana were fantastic guides. They not only kept us safe, there were so kind and funny. They arranged additional activities for us to do since the weather cooperates so well. The food was a bit of a mixed bag (some was wonderful, some wasn’t my taste), but portion sizes were on the big side so no one went hungry. Sao Miguel is a beautiful island!

This was my first trip with Much Better Adventures. I went on this trip with 2 friends. We were all absolutely satisfied and happy with the trip. The guides Teresa and Diana were incredibly accommodating, fun and knowledgeable about each area. We were very fortunate about the weather so we were able to do all the activities and there were extra stops and visits thrown in. I highly recommend this tour for anyone seeking an adventure in Portugal.

Sao Miguel is a beautiful island. I loved the views, the scenery, and the architecture. I enjoyed our group dynamic and all of the activities were a lot of fun. Our guides were very personable and did an excellent job planning and facilitating our adventures throughout the week. Thank you Tiago and Teresa for a great vacation!

  • Mandy B.

This was an amazing trip, and the guides were awesome. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so much fun to be around. I was worried as I have a condition that leaves me with about 60 percent lung capacity. However the level 2 holiday was great and l was able to keep up with others and do all of the activities. You can opt out if you really don't want to do something or you can do partial activities, just talk to your guide. I am not into camping but l enjoyed the campsite and the food there was amazing. I would be happy to book again and the island was so very beautiful that l think it has spoiled me for scenery and views now!

What an absolutely incredible week adventuring on the island of Sao Miguel. As someone who came into this trip a little nervous about the level of adventure, I have to give a really special thanks to our guides who were more than happy to work with all different ability levels during this trip. Our main guides, Teresa and Tiago, as well as Pedro and Ines who joined in on a few activities, created an experience that was welcoming to everyone and allowed us all to push and challenge ourselves in a safe space in the middle of paradise. I conquered fears I never thought possible on this trip, while also feeling safe enough to know my limits. All of our guides knew what to do when someone was nervous about an event, and as someone with anxiety, I appreciated their knowledge of how to work with nerves and even panic. All of us were encouraged to face our fears through kindness and acceptance from our guides. Our guides were exceptionally knowledgeable about the island - sharing everything from information about agriculture to fairy tales. And the villages we visited - you feel like you are actually IN a fairy tale! The itinerary may change due to weather, and I appreciated how well Teresa and Tiago were able to pivot based on the forecast to make sure we were able to do all of our activities. We visited just about every corner of the island and I spent every day with my eyes wide, in awe of the ability to see such a magical place with such wonderful people. Some packing tips - make sure your rain coat is actually waterproof! And if you are a coffee lover, bring some of your own instant coffee - the coffee at the first hotel is an experience, ha!, and you will be out adventuring before the cafes open for the day. Thank you Teresa, Tiago, Pedro, and Ines (and Rodrigo who made us laugh on the streets - here is your promised shoutout! 😁) for a week I will hold close to my heart forever. You just might have turned this nervous nelly into a bit of an adventurer. 💛🥾l can’t wait to come back to Sao Miguel!

Tiago and Teresa worked incredibly hard to make the most of our time. They arranged all our activities to get the most out of each day. We got to do our bike ride and see everything glorious view because they moved it to a sunny day. They worked cheerfully to give all of us a great adventure! They cheerleaders and guided and pushed and held a scared hand or joked a smile out of each person as needed. They took great care with our safety but also our happiness💜

  • Dana C.

Teresa and Tiago truly made this trip unforgettable! I really can’t say enough wonderful things about them, both as guides and as people. They are absolute gems! We also had two days with Pedro, who was awesome as well! The entire trip was incredible, and the experiences were unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone so many times, and I’m so happy I did. Coasteering and canyoning were hands down my favorite days! We didn’t have the best weather for a few days, but honestly, it didn’t matter at all. The guides adjusted the itinerary around the conditions so that we were still able to do everything, and we had the best time regardless. The electric bike tour was definitely difficult, so be prepared for that, but the view at the top was absolutely breathtaking and worth the effort. If you’re unable to push yourself all the way up on the bike, the guides will drive you to the top so you can still experience the view. But if you’re physically able to push through, I highly recommend doing it! It made coming down the volcano that much more rewarding. We also got incredibly lucky with a crystal-clear day to see the lake, and it was something I’ll never forget. I also loved the little fairytale stories Tiago shared about some of the places we visited. Those small touches made the experience feel even more special. By the end of the trip, the guides felt like genuine friendships. The camping and BBQ were a really nice, relaxing break in the middle of the trip and gave us a chance to rest and recharge. You are busy with adventures for most of this trip, so I would definitely recommend being realistic about your fitness level and abilities. The trip is listed as Level 2, and as an active, fit person, I found it to be the perfect amount of challenging. However, I did notice that quite a few people in our group struggled to keep up at times. The hike in particular is long and steep, so that’s something to be aware of. Personally, I loved every single day exactly as it was because the activity level was a great fit for me. As far as accommodations, the first hotel was very bare-bones, so I would keep expectations fairly low. The breakfast there was really poor. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance depending on what type of food you enjoy. Azorean food personally wasn’t a favorite of mine, so food was probably one of the more challenging parts of the trip for me. Definitely bring snacks! I depended on mine throughout much of the trip. The second hotel was much nicer, although there was no air conditioning, which made the temperature a little uncomfortable. The second town was absolutely adorable, though, so make sure you take some time to walk around and enjoy its charm. I also found the food options there much better. A few things I’d recommend bringing: a poncho was a must, 2 pairs of sneakers while one pair dries you have a backup, reusable water bottle, portable battery packs for your phone, plenty of snacks, and an outlet adapter if you’re traveling from the U. S. One of the best things is that the guides take SO many photos and videos throughout the entire trip. You really don’t have to stress about constantly pulling out your phone or trying to capture every moment yourself. You can actually be present and enjoy the experience, knowing they’re documenting it for you. The Azores was a magical adventure I’ll never forget, but truthfully, Tiago and Teresa brought so much to this experience and felt like genuine friends by the end. Thank you both so, so much for the memories! ❤️

The trip lived up to all our expectations, it was wild, it was an adventure but most of all it was fun. Teresa and Sofia brought so much to the group with their music, dancing and laughter. They managed the shifting itinerary so well that we looked forward to every day. We got to know everyone so well that by the end of the week we had made new friends. Thank you Azores for being so beautiful. We will be back!!

  • Michelle M.

Where do I start? Teresa and Luana were superb. They were both knowledgeable, FUN!, and professional. I can’t put into words the one-of-a-kind experience they gave us. Our group bonded so well- we stayed true to safety, group support & encouragement, and just making sure everyone felt comfortable. That environment was fostered by these two ladies. Because of them and this group, we have forever friendships and permanently imprinted memories. I get teary thinking about it. Thank you two Teresa and Luana for the most incredible adventure.

  • Liza D.

The trip was magical. Our guides, Teresa and Luana, were beyond excellent. Very professional, emphasis on safety, and the makers of pure fun! The activities were so varied and well organized. I learned new skills and grew in confidence. My favorite activity was the canyoning (zip line, sliding down waterfalls, and cliff jumping). Our group dynamic was one of kindness, laughter, and cheering support. I went on this trip with friends and definitely made new ones. I just can’t say enough about our guides expertise and personalities for creating such an impactful and exciting experience. Thanks Much Better- I will be back!!

  • The trip lived up to

    Gareth D. July 2026
  • Absolutely amazing!

    Michelle M. July 2026
  • Thanks Teresa and Luana

    Liza D. July 2026
  • Amazing Adventure

    Michaela S. July 2026
An amazing week in the Azores with incredible people and great adventures! Can’t speak highly enough of this trip, the island or the guides. If you are looking for a little adventure in your life in a beautiful location this trip is just right for you. Pack a raincoat and a little extra bravery and you will have the best time. If you are lucky enough to have Teresa and Luana as your guides you could not be in better hands
  • Amazing Azores Trip

From start to finish, this trip exceeded all expectations! The guides, Teresa and Luanna, were absolutely fabulous and did everything to make the trip comfortable, fun, enjoyable, and informational. We loved all of the activities and the extras added by the world's greatest guides. Thank you, Much Better Adventures, for a really fantastic week and memories that will last a lifetime!
  • Worth the 6 Year Wait

    Steven L. July 2026
Having seen a holiday advert for The Açores in 2020, we finally got around to booking a break there. And such a good decision! The island of São Miguel is such a beautiful place but I don't believe that we would have had such an excellent experience if we had self-guided. Teresa and Luana were our lead guides for all 7 days and they made the experience engaging, enjoyable and exciting. The food, the activities, the group of fellow travellers were all fantastic. Such a different way (for us) to holiday and therefore, if it seems different for you; take the plunge - the Atlantic isn't that cold (on the fourth attempt).
  • Amazing Adventure in the Azores!

    Melissa C. July 2026
I just got back from this trip as a solo traveler and could not have asked for a better experience. The island and the itinerary were spectacular, but what really made the experience was our guides, Teresa and Luana, with a special appearance by Bruno for coasteering. A week of laughter and pure joy, thanks to them! The views they showed us, the history they shared, the way they supported and encouraged group members of all levels of experience and ability, it was far more than I ever could have expected. Doing a trip like this solo is intimidating, but with amazing guides and a great group of fellow travelers, I’m already planning my next adventure. Visiting the island during hydrangea season was an added bonus to the already stunning scenery. The activities were challenging, but rewarding. Our hikes never felt as long (in distance) as the scenery and company were a great distraction. Coasteering and canyoning had me anxious as someone afraid of heights, but with the support of our guides I did it all and am so glad I did. You will not regret booking this trip!
  • This was my first group

    Shelby K. July 2026
This was my first group travel and first Much Better trip and I could not recommend it enough!!!!! Teresa and Luana went above and beyond as our guides, every day was filled with adventure and discovery , we saw so much of the island in such a unique, memorable way. They put care and thought into every little detail and took time to get to know all of us. We had such a special group, by the end it felt like family. The Azores is magical - the culture, the sea, the land, the people. Again, could not recommend enough !!!
  • 100/10

    Eleanor L. July 2026
The Azores is already an incredible place — dramatic landscapes, volcanic lakes, wild coastlines — but what truly made this trip unforgettable were our guides: Teresa and Luana. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond. Their passion for the island runs deep, and they shared it with us through stories, culture, history, and those little local details you’d never find on your own. Every day felt like stepping into a new chapter of the island’s identity. We packed so much adventure into the week: Coasteering along rugged volcanic cliffs Canyoning through lush green valleys and waterfalls E‑biking across sweeping viewpoints Hiking through crater rims and hidden trails Pineapple and tea plantation visits (with the best tastings!) Beach walks, wild swimming, and even snorkelling inside a volcano A magical camping night under the stars, complete with a private chef who cooked an incredible meal for us We also had Bruno and Pedro join us for some activities, and their energy and expertise made everything feel seamless and safe. And of course, Luana’s legendary landslide stories kept us entertained the entire week — she has a way of turning every moment into something memorable. Every activity was thoughtfully planned, every location breathtaking, and every guide genuinely invested in making sure we had the best possible experience. It never felt rushed or commercial; it felt personal, authentic, and full of heart. If you’re considering an adventure in the Azores, I couldn’t recommend this tour more. It’s the perfect blend of adrenaline, culture, nature, and connection — the kind of trip that stays with you long after you’ve left the island.
  • An incredible adventure!

    Ellen June 2026
The adventure in the Azores was an incredible week. We lucked out with terrific weather, allowing us to do all the adventures. I appreciated the variety of activities because it meant each day was different. And as much as I loved the activities, I think the people were my favorite part. We had a fantastic group of adventurous, fun, and funny people. Teresa and Sofia were both knowledgeable, prepared, and organized guides. They brought a lot of energy to the group and helped make the week fantastic!
  • One of the best trips I have been on

    Charles H. June 2026
The trip, the island, activities, organisation, the staff - everything was amazing! We got very lucky with the weather most days as the island can be a bit temperamental, but Teresa and Sofia managed our days and itinerary meticulously and adapted when necessary with no fuss or drama. All the activities were available for our whole group and varied in difficulty but all achievable for everyone. Big shout out to Teresa and Sofia, they were the best guides I have had on any of my MBA trips
  • Far surpassed our expectations! Great trip and great guides!

    Sarah T. June 2026
This was the first time my hubby and I ever booked an adventure tour of any kind. We travel a lot and book our own activities, lodgings etc. But now that we are in our fifties, we are feeling a little lazy so when I found this trip, we decided to give it a go and invite friends to join us. Our guides, Sofia and Teresa were awesome! They did a great job organizing our daily activities, making adjustments as needed, and were great listeners, attending to the group’s wishes and concerns. The group size was 12 people and I’m glad the company keeps the group size no larger than that. Any larger and I think that would have impacted the activities negatively. Everyone in our group (25 to early 60’s ) was friendly and we clearly all have some similar outdoor interests as this trip called to all of us. We all got along very well and had so much fun together. We all were very bonded, including our awesome guides, by the end of the trip. We are still sending chats on our group’s What’s App forum, sharing pictures, reminiscing over the trip. The activities were so, so fun!! The coasteering was totally new to us, and it was super fun. Like other people mentioned in their reviews, you have the opportunity to jump off cliffs into the water (but not required - there are smaller hops/entries into the water). This leads to one example of the guides taking our safety seriously. It was a little rough at the sea that day we went and after evaluating one particular jump location and then looking back at all our expressions (we were all probably looking a bit worried 😂) they firmly concluded it was not safe to continue forward and took us back to calmer waters to continue our fun adventure. That moment impressed me, because it meant that our safety was more important than completing the original plan. The hiking, biking, canyoneering were all amazing! We got lucky and got the best sunrise viewing after camping . The little side trips to the tea plantation, tasting the volcanic waters near Furnas, the stop at the village on our hike on the way back down from the waterfall for drinks/snacks were like the cherries on top of the cake. Just writing this review brings back all the wonderful memories. We are already missing the Azores!
  • Wonderful varied adventure

    Nikki S. June 2026
The Azores are stunning. Expect sun, rain, wind, calm seas and waves. It really is four seasons in one day! Our guides Teresa and Sophia were superb. All the activities booked in were moved to suit the ever changing weather which worked really well. The hotels were of good quality. We stayed in Ponta Delgada for the first part of the trip which was wonderful in the evenings. This is a great way to see The Azores. You will not be disappointed.
  • Amazing Azores 💚

    Abigail S. June 2026
I have just returned from this trip with it being my 6th trip with MBA and it’s honestly one of the best I’ve done. The activities are so varied and every day is different. Everything is organised superbly and the guides are encouraging and professional. We were a group of mixed ages and predominantly couples however everyone gelled so well together. The activities you do require you to support and look after one another therefore it was a great way for us all to form bonds together. We all laughed from day one through to a very emotional final dinner together, it was the most heartwarming experience. The Azores is a truly beautiful country with so much to see and do. Prior to us arriving our guides had planned our activities according to the predicted weather which worked incredibly. Whilst it meant the advertised itinerary changed, it meant we were able to complete all activities and with the required weather for viewpoints and for them to all be enjoyable. Accommodation is comfortable, clean and in great locations. I read reviews that advised to bring a poncho towel - I’m so glad I took that advice as it made things so much easier. The most amazing part of the trip were our guides Teresa and Sofia. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful they both are and how hard they worked to ensure everyone had a great time. Thank you so much girls - you are both just incredible at what you do. Book this trip - you will not regret it!
  • Adventure, Beauty, and Connection

    Ross G. June 2026
My wife and I just returned from a week in the Azores, and wow - what an incredible vacation! Unsurpassed combination of jaw-dropping natural beauty and loads of fun. It's what I call type 2 fun, where you have to work for it, but the rewards far outweigh the pain. Like jumping off a cliff into turbulent seas, and struggling to scramble out on the lava rocks. But what made this vacation truly unforgettable was our guides, Teresa and Sofia. They went way above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great experience. Adapting the schedule to best fit the weather forecast, always keeping it safe, and offering options for anyone not comfortable with the activity. They were hard working, energetic, positive, and caring, and brought us together as a team. 12 strangers at the beginning of the week, we were sad to have to say our goodbyes at the end. I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone, and plan to use Much Better Adventures again.
  • An Unforgettable Adventure in the Azores

    Rachel S. June 2026
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some amazing places, but this adventure holiday in the Azores will stay with me for a very long time. From the spectacular volcanic landscapes and breathtaking coastal views to the incredible activities and wonderful people, it was truly a special experience from beginning to end. What made the trip exceptional were our guides, Teresa and Sofia. They were simply outstanding. Their knowledge, enthusiasm, positivity, and genuine care for everyone in the group made all the difference. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they constantly adapted the itinerary around the weather to ensure we had the very best possible experience. Thanks to their flexibility and expertise, we always seemed to be in the right place at exactly the right time. What impressed me most was how quickly Teresa and Sofia got to know each of us as individuals. They understood our strengths, encouraged us when things were challenging, celebrated our achievements, and somehow made everyone feel valued and included. Their energy and encouragement helped create such a positive atmosphere throughout the trip. The Azores provided the perfect backdrop for adventure, but it was the people who made it unforgettable. We were lucky to have such a fantastic group, and over the course of the holiday we became a real team. There was so much laughter, support, shared experiences, and camaraderie that by the end it felt like travelling with friends rather than strangers. Every day brought a new adventure, stunning scenery, and memories that I’ll treasure for years to come. This wasn’t just a holiday—it was an experience that challenged, inspired, and connected people in the best possible way. A huge thank you to Teresa and Sofia for making it so special. If you’re considering an adventure holiday in the Azores, don’t hesitate—you’ll come home with unforgettable memories, new friends, and a deep appreciation for one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Without a doubt, one of the best holidays I’ve ever had. Ps. Don’t forget your poncho towel!
  • Never traveling without much better again

    Kelly W. June 2026
This trip was perfect perfect perfect. I booked on a whim after my girls trip fell through and instead went to the Azores with 10 perfect strangers and was nervous about getting along with others and about doing the “right” activities. In truth, I had nothing to worry about because this trip was so special. The group quickly became so bonded and emotionally open with each other, talking about all the good and the bad in this life. I made friends for life all over the world and listened to their unique lives and was inspired by all of them. The guides Teresa and Luana and Joao were all so skilled, adventurous, joyful and kind humans and fun to be around. They got all the go pro footage you could want. They adjusted the trip around what the group asked for above and beyond the outlined itinerary. They sang with us in the car. They laughed and cried with us. They made me feel alive again. All of this set to the background straight out of a green screen. Every view was breathtaking and unreal. No mosquitos!! Getting your body moving!! Challenging yourself a little bit!! All of it so great. Be prepared for the on and off again rain which is constant. Pack lots of layers. May was a tad cold so maybe June would’ve been better (plus the hydrangeas would be out) but still a great time. 10/10 recommend. Go meet some cool people and experience this sick island!!
  • Adventures of a lifetime with Teresa and Luana

    Gauri A. June 2026
★★★★★ Teresa, Luana & the whole Fun Activities Adventures team they made this a trip of a lifetime. I came to the Azores hoping for adventure. What I didn’t expect was how deeply everyone at Fun Activities Adventures would go to make sure every single moment . . the planned ones and the unexpected ones . . felt completely taken care of. Midway through the trip, I had a dental emergency. Without missing a beat, the team stepped in, drove me to the appointment, found a wonderful dentist, and made sure I wasn’t navigating that alone in a foreign place. That moment alone tells you everything about who they are. When things went sideways, they didn’t just solve the problem — they showed up as people who genuinely cared. Beyond that, every adventure was thoughtfully crafted to push us just past our comfort zones in the best possible way — the kind of experiences that quietly become the ones you talk about for years. Off days were just as organised and magical as the main itinerary. Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt overlooked. he Azores is breathtaking. But it’s Teresa, Luana, and the entire Fun Activities Adventures team who transformed it into something truly unforgettable. If you’re looking for an experience that’s not just well-run but genuinely heart-led — book with them. You’ll be in the best possible hands.
  • Best trip ever, by a county mile

    Brian May 2026
This was far and away the best vacation I’ve ever taken. I have always wanted to see Azores, but the surprise highlight of the trip was absolutely Teresa and Luana. The activities they took us on were non stop and amazing. Definitely things that were outside my comfort zone, but dang if Teresa didn’t make everyone feel empowered to just go for it.
  • Amazing Trip

    Asiya May 2026
The Azores were absolutely stunning! This this was my first trip with the group and I had excellent experience. Our guides Teresa and Luana were amazing, went above and beyond, excellent skills in organizing and guiding. They showed up with so much enthusiasm every day. They created welcoming and positive group atmosphere. My favorite activity were kayaking, hiking and biking. Learn and enjoyed new activities for me such as canyoning along the mountain river and coasteering along the volcanic coastline. Would skip whale watching (this activity depends on the animal behavior and may not be seen). Camping was interesting experience, our guides took us for sunrise watching. Overall this is a beautiful island full of nature, adventure, and breathtaking views. Many meals were included and had different options, tasting fantastic. Travel in May, regret not taking more warmer clothes, weather was shine and rain in the same day.
  • Disappointing Azores trip

    JULIAN O. May 2026
Many things were below expectations: 1st Hotel - very poor breakfast, room has water damage - we were told hotel did not complete renovations but still sold the room. Mattress was hard as rock. Pillows was so worn thin it looked like it has not been replaced in years. If we fly thousands of miles to visit Azores, the least i'd expect is a good nights sleep on decent bed. Excursions - Poor. Hike to Lake was cancelled. Reason given was because of 'cloudy' & no view. You are missing the point - it's the journey/hike not the destination. View or no view hiking is the experience. We went to pineapple farm to drink/eat & did some small waterfall hikes instead. IN the PM the weather cleared, & we had nothing to do. Also, on last day we went whale watching (half day activity), could have easily arranged for kayaking in the AM since it's the same place. Food - Poor. Welcome meal on 1st night was some bland meat & starch. While I understand you need to keep budget on food, would be better to just let me how much the budget is, and let me order what I want off the menu & pay the difference. I've already spent much $ to get to Azores, last thing I need is bad meal & not being able to sample the local delicacies. Same thing with farewell meal - poor. Only decent meal was lunch when I was told budget & was able to order off menu. Camp site - Poor. No Azorean BBQ. River is fenced off not easily accessible from campsite. Actually, don't know why we camp there at all. Due to weather, the kayaking and coaststeering activities were canceled. As mentioned earlier, kayaking could have been re-arranged when weather cleared towards end of trip. Are you going to compensate me for acitivities that you published on your itinerary but did not happen ?
  • Fantastic adventure with the best group!

    Anne S. May 2026
Our tour guides Teresa and Luana (with Quentin for a couple of days) were absolutely incredible and guaranteed that we had the best possible time from start to finish. Activities were varied and tonnes of fun, and I especially enjoyed all water based activities. The group was almost entirely made up of solo travellers, and we bonded quickly to make this a memorable trip with friends. Accommodation and transport were well organised, and honestly, it couldn't have been a more stress-free group holiday! Recommended wholeheartedly!
  • Should be 5 stars

    Justin S. May 2026
This trip was extremely fun. We had a blast all week despite challenging weather. All of the activities are great and the tour guides we had (Ricardo and Guilherme) were incredible. The reason I’m downgrading to 4 stars is because of the first hotel accommodation we had. The rooms were dingy and unclean. The rooms had mold, some had torn wallpaper, the wooden bathroom floors were always soggy and squishy. The pool was broken and unusable. I could go on but simply put; it was just gross. It’s also in a sleepy town that has nothing open in the mornings for breakfast and everything closes at 9pm or sooner and there’s genuinely nothing to do. Overall, the place just wasn’t great and we were never moved or given any compensation despite MBA acknowledging the fact that it was a subpar hotel that was supposed to have renovations done before we arrived. They should be putting tours up in Ponta Delgada. There is far more to do, places to eat, etc. and it’s closer to almost every activity you do. Aside from that, the trip is incredible. I really do highly recommend it just make sure you aren’t staying at Vinha D’areia.

This trip has a variety of activities in different parts of the island, so the itinerary is subject to some reordering depending on weather conditions, if required. Being surrounded by a huge expanse of sea and influenced by the warm Gulf Stream gives the Azores a mild climate that's pleasant all year round with relatively small temperature variations.

April can be somewhat unpredictable, with a mix of sunny and cloudy days and chances of rain. Temperatures are 13°C (55°F) to 18°C (64°F) and the ocean is still cool, with water temperatures around 16-17°C (61-63°F).

May and June warm up a little with temperatures from 14°C (57°F) to 22°C (72°F) and less rainfall. The sea warms up to 19°C (66°F).

September and October are two of the best months to visit the Azores. The weather is typically sunny and warm, with relatively low chances of rain. The sea is at its warmest, around 23-24°C (73-75°F), perfect for swimming and other water activities. October things start to cool a little, with more chance of rain.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 183kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust (opens in new tab) to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre (opens in new tab) programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly.
