Transfers

On Day 1, you can choose to be picked up from either Tirana Airport or Tirana Rinas Bus Station if you’re already in town. If you’re flying in on the first day of the trip and wish to join the included group transfer, be sure to book a flight arriving no later than 13:00. Your host will confirm transfer details before your trip, but the group transfer to Berat is typically scheduled for early afternoon, once all morning flights have landed. If your flight arrives later, you can request a private transfer to Berat directly through your host (see Optional Extras for price details).

On Day 9, you’re free to book a flight departing at any time. However, please note that there is only one scheduled group transfer to the airport at around 09:30, with an expected drop-off at approximately 10:00 to accommodate flights departing from noon onwards. If your flight is significantly earlier or later, you can arrange your own transfer – either by booking a private journey with your host (see Optional Extras for details) or by taking the Rinas Express shuttle, which runs daily from 06:00 to 24:00, departing every hour. The shuttle takes about 30 minutes to reach the airport.

If you’d like to arrive earlier or extend your stay, your host can help arrange extra accommodation in Tirana – see the Optional Extras section for more details.

Travel options

There are frequent direct flights to Tirana from major airports across the UK and Europe. Travellers from the US or Canada can easily reach Tirana with connecting flights via Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich, or Amsterdam.

Trip level explained

Level 2

Easy-Moderate

On this trip, you’ll explore some of Albania’s most stunning landscapes – from towering mountains and deep canyons, to pristine rivers and sun-drenched coastlines. Expect to be active for 3-5 hours most days, with a mix of both leisurely and more adventurous days featuring hiking, kayaking, rafting, and e-biking. No prior experience is needed for any of the activities – just a reasonable level of fitness and a willingness to embrace the outdoors.

Day 2 features the longest hike, covering 15km over five hours, while the other treks are shorter and less demanding. You’ll traverse a variety of landscapes, from forest trails and rocky canyon paths to gentle paved tracks, with occasional ascents that will get your heart pumping. You’ll also enjoy two scenic e-bike rides, with battery-powered assistance making uphill sections and winding gravel paths easier to navigate.

For the sea kayaking, river paddling, and whitewater rafting, expert guides will provide full instruction, so it's fine if you've not done these activities before. However, it's essential that you're both able to swim and feel confident in the water.

While the adventure is designed to be fun and achievable, Albania’s summer heat – especially in coastal areas – can make physical activity feel more intense. If you don’t exercise regularly, consider incorporating some moderate activity in the weeks leading up to the trip to ensure you’re ready to make the most of this unforgettable experience.

What if i need to skip an activity?

You can always opt out of some activities should you prefer to take the trip at a slower pace. If you would like to skip an activity, just speak to your guide who can make alternative arrangements or recommendations for you.

What will I need to carry?

You'll need to have a larger bag suitable for all your belongings which will be transported for you, and then a small daypack to carry personal items and a water bottle each day.

Food and Dietary info

Albanian cuisine is a delightful blend of hearty and wholesome dishes, featuring an abundance of locally sourced meats, vegetables, and seasonal ingredients. Popular dishes include tender turkey, lamb, or goat pershesh (a savoury meat stew), served alongside kulac, a traditional local bread. Another favourite is byrek, a savoury pie made with thin pastry and filled with meat and leeks, as well as freshly caught fish prepared in a Mediterranean style. Fish dishes are often seasoned with olive oil and white vinegar sourced from southern Albania, and many meals are complemented with wine from the region’s local vineyards. Throughout your trip, you’ll have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in Albanian culinary traditions, enjoying a range of included meals. These include a farm-to-table lunch with wine tasting at a local winery, a cooking demonstration in a local home, and delicious picnic lunches. Most dinners have not been included in the trip cost, giving you the chance to choose your meal or restaurant based on your preferences and budget.

The activities were great and our guide, Endri was wonderful!!!! He was a lot of fun and kept us informed every step of the way. Albania is beautiful and the people are friendly and welcoming. Visiting Villa Goliku is a must! Such a beautiful establishment and the host is wonderful. More free time to explore and shop would have been nice. During the 9-mile hike, there were beautiful areas that I would have liked to explore. The rough terrain made it difficult to take in the beautiful landscape or even take pictures because we had to focus on where we were stepping. For a level-2 adventure, I was surprised at how strenuous some of the activities were. It would have been nice to shop at some of the booths at Berat Castle; to not even get a chance to see any of them was a little disappointing. - Some of the hotels were a little disappointing for the price we paid. I felt like we were secluded from the towns/villages and it would have been nice to be closer so we could take in the activities. The last hotel (City Center?) was terrible; I felt like we were staying in an alley hotel.

My first trip to Albania and my first time with MBA. Definitely won't be my last. This trip was amazing. Each day brought a new location, different activities, comfortable accommodation, welcoming hosts, delicious food, lots of outdoor time, beautiful scenery, great wine & stunning views. Shout out to Endri, Emiljano and Joel, our guides and support throughout. The love of your country is evident. And to the wonderful group of people I had the absolute pleasure of meeting. You were the best! Fantastic, funny, kind and generous. Thank you

  • Alex S.

I've been solo travelling for the past 13 years and this was my first time joining a group booking like this so I was quite dubious at first. Particularly about how the group dynamics would work and how we would all get along. Thankfully that doubt was gone once we all met and instantly clicked. We were blessed with our group, who were just such a great bunch. A positive attitude, willingness to get stuck in, and giving your best will stand to anyone thinking about joining trips like these. I thought the itinerary was fanatstic. So much to do, and so much to see, all fit in the time we were given was just so impressive. When I say Albania is stunning, I mean STUNNING. I wish I stayed longer. The local people we met along the way, like at wine tasting at Alpeta Winery in Roshnik, or the traditional lunch in Villa Goliku and the cooking class in Përmet, they all just made us feel so welcome, and were just so happy to share their delicious food and culture with us. All the accommodation arranged was perfect and comfortable. WiFi was available too in each one (very handy if you don't get an Albanian SIM). The guides on our hikes, e-biking, kayaking and rafting were so supportive. You felt like you were in safe hands the whole time. And plenty of drinking water was provided for all activities in the warm weather! With regards the hikes, I found them fine for Level 2. That saying no one knows your body / ability better than you so I'd reccomend to anyone going on future trips to bring your own gear that you're used to hiking with (like, proper hiking footwear or poles if you need them). As mentioned all the guides were great for the adventure parts, but when it came to the whole trip in it's entirety, Endri was just superb. Being responsible for 12 independent adults is not an easy job. He was so great at keeping us all engaged and entertained while keeping us safe at the same time. He was very patient with all our questions too. You can suss out genuine good tour guides fairly quickly and Endri was that and more. His pride in his work and Albania was apparent. He showed us the best of the best of Albania. So grateful to him and Emiljano for driving us around their beautiful country moving from accommodation to accommodation (with excellent music choices may I add - when Emiljano played a full song 😉). A wonderful trip! 100% will be back to Albania. Its a magical place. Thanks again to Albania Rafting Group for looking after us so well and making us feel so welcome!

  • Lisa S.

I had an absolutely fantastic time. Endri looked after us really well. This was my first solo trip and everyone was really welcoming. The activities were fantastic and allowed us to spend lots of time enjoying Albania's gorgeous scenery. The accomodation was really comfortable.

  • Sinéad D.

My trip to Albania exceeded my expectations - it was my first solo holiday and I could not have had a better experience. Our guides were a young, enthusiastic and helpful crew- big shout especially to Endri who was our main guide and made himself available pretty much 24/7 for us. He managed the coordination of each day with kindness, grace and patience. Also deserving of a special mention are Emiljano who supported the trip and Joel who took us rafting - amazing guys who added to the whole experience. Have noted some negative reviews from earlier trips- only comment to that would be - be prepared to be active - that is what the holiday is for! and manage your own expectations - it is a country that has come through a very difficult era which is worth bearing in mind whilst respecting the values and the people of the country that you are in. I would 100% return to Albania to see more of it- before the influencers get to it and ruin it...:)

Great experience on my first ever adventure holiday. Took some time to get used to the unseasonably hot conditions, but found the difficulty level very manageable. A great adventure for anyone new to hiking or kayaking, but still wanting a bit of a challenge. Beautiful landscapes, amazing food, knowledgable guides (Arti was great throughout the trip), and goats, sheep, dogs, and cats a plenty!

  • Vicki W.

This was an amazing experience. Albania is a beautiful and diverse country and far exceeded my expectations. What truly made the trip such a great experience was Arti. He is an absolutely phenomenal guide and ambassador for his country. We had a very diverse group of individuals and he was able to ensure that every person got the best experience possible. I would not hesitate to join another tour if Arti was the guide. He worked seamlessly with local providers to ensure that each activity was well coordinated and exceeded what many of us anticipated on the trip (Aldo was spectacular for all the water related activities). Arti already was able to deal with any slight mishaps that occurred in such a way that it did not affect the trip for everyone.

  • joanna e.

This trip has it all, hiking, sight-seeing, rafting, cooking, e-biking, wine-tasting, kayaking and soaking in hot springs. We loved it all, not least because our fabulous guide Arti was with us throughout, telling us about historical information, points of interest, facts about modern-day Albania and joining in the fun so that we didn't have to think about anything except experiencing this amazing country. it's a stunning place...go now before everyone knows about it.

  • Alexandra O.

The accommodation and food on this trip exceeded expectations. I was on an early September trip, the water for all the relevant activities was a perfect temperature, but the walks are largely unshaded and a bit too hot for comfort.

  • Harriet C.

I’ve just returned from the most amazing trip to Albania, a destination I knew very little about before arriving, but one that completely exceeded my expectations. The trip was everything I imagined and more, made even more special by our fantastic guide, Arti. Arti was an incredible guide - so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and passionate about Albania. He taught us so much about the country’s fascinating history, from its Ottoman architecture and ancient castles to its incredible landscapes and culture. His enthusiasm and knowledge really brought the places we visited to life. It was also fantastic to travel alongside such a great group of like-minded, outdoorsy people, all with an equally strong sense of adventure. The activities organised by Albania Rafting were brilliant and gave us such a fun and varied way to experience the country. Kayaking down the Vjosa River was definitely a highlight for me, as was trying rafting for the first time! Overall, it was an unforgettable 9 days - exactly the kind of adventure and reset I needed. Beautiful landscapes, sunshine, delicious food, amazing company and plenty of adventure. Albania completely surprised me, and I couldn’t recommend this trip highly enough.

  • Great experience on my first

    Matthew S. September 2026
  • Fantastic snapshot into Albania

    Vicki W. September 2026
  • Great trip

    joanna e. September 2026
  • Busy trip with fantastic food

    Alexandra O. September 2026
The accommodation and food on this trip exceeded expectations. I was on an early September trip, the water for all the relevant activities was a perfect temperature, but the walks are largely unshaded and a bit too hot for comfort.
  • Unforgetable Trip

    Harriet C. September 2026
  • Amazing trip to Albania

    Anton H. August 2026
Honestly didn't know much about Albania before booking this, but I'm so glad I did. The whole thing was brilliant from start to finish. The landscapes are genuinely stunning, nothing like what I expected. We got a good mix of activities, decent food, and stayed in nice places. Our guide Arti just had this way of making everyone feel looked after without being annoying about it, you know? He'd check in on people, made sure nobody felt left out, and somehow got a group of strangers actually talking to each other by day two. Started the week with complete strangers but everyone just clicked. The vibe was so relaxed. By the end people actually wanted to stay in touch, which doesn't happen on every trip. Albania itself has this amazing energy. You can feel it's come a long way, and the locals are incredibly welcoming. The spots we visited feel real, not touristy. If you're thinking about going, honestly just do it. You'll need decent fitness for some of the activities, but it's worth it. Can't recommend it enough.
  • Unforgetable trip

    Nahieli G. August 2026
The places and activities considered in the trip are definetely a great choice. The places are beautiful and the activities different and funny. The hotels are all very nice and the equipment used in / for the activities also in very good conditions. We had very nice group, which also made the experience a very nice one. But what really made the difference to previous group trips I had done was Arti, our travel guide, which always managed to pay attention to the details, making it funny, interesting and even providing us support with little personal incidents. Thanks Arti, for the great experience and hope to see you again1

    Marie-Christine B. August 2026
Albania is a beautiful country with some amazing landscapes. The itinerary has a good mix of different activities. The food and accommodation were great. The only point I would have is that the e-bikes need to be properly serviced before use. I had a bike with a broken pedal that had zip ties attached to it to keep it together, which made cycling uncomfortable as the pedal didn't stay in place. The pedal should have been properly replaced. The guide Endri was good. He kept his cool even with some difficult guests in the group who were very rude. If booking on this trip make sure you have the right fitness level and are physically able to partake in the activities.
  • worth every penny

    Jack L. August 2026
Never really thought about travelling to Albania before, but the dates lined up so it was perfect timing. Best decision Ive ever made, can't believe I've not heard much about it. I have nothing negative to say about it, it blew my expectations out the park. The group we were with were strangers that felt like lifelong friends by the and of it and our guide, Arti was the GOAT. Knew loads of history about his country and the tour locations, great guy to have around and everyone love him. He knew the best locations for food on our nights out, gave us freedom to choose a lot of things, got us to where we needed to be with no problems, helped everyone out with getting to the meet spot, getting separate taxis for different travel times when leaving. And that's not even going into Albania itself. Beautiful country that seems to have recovered well in spite of a rough history. The people were all lovely, and well worth visiting Can't reccomend this enough, I'll definitely be coming back to do the north side one day.
  • The trip was an excellent

    Dale T. August 2026
The trip was an excellent tour of many hidden and spectacular gems of Albania. Arti the tour guide was excellent and made sure everything was taken care of.
  • Amazing Albania

    Ruth H. August 2026
An amazing trip led by Arti. It covered everything we wanted and loved being in different parts of Albania. The people we spent our week with were chilled and easy going. They enhanced our experience. Hopefully our video sums it up.
  • Albania - I'll be back!

    Anna F. August 2026
This trip was unforgettable and one I would definitely recommend. The activities were so varied - every day brought something new. Lots of personal highlights. The optional boat trip was fab, particularly the swim through cave. The kayaking and rafting were so much fun - a wonderful way to enjoy the stunning Vjosa river. The jumps were terrifying but brilliant; still not sure how I managed to do them. Each activity genuinely added to the overall experience. Albania totally exceeded my expectations. The landscapes were beautiful, with fabulous mountains, crystal-clear waters and picturesque towns. As a country, it felt unspoilt and authentic - I would love to go back. The accommodation was excellent - comfortable beds, spacious rooms and welcoming hosts. The food was full of fresh ingredients, with plenty of opportunities to try out the local cuisine. Our guide was friendly and approachable, but not particularly forthcoming with information. We often had to ask a lot of questions to understand what we needed for the day ahead. That said, it did not detract from a fabulous trip. After a couple of early hiccups (e-bikes not suitably sized or charged & no water provided), the trip just got better and better. Overall, Albania delivered beautiful scenery, memorable experiences and great hospitality.
  • Beautiful place, great activities

    Thomas m. August 2026
A well organised trip with suitable activities based on the star rating. All accomodation was better than expected & the food was so fresh & local. Definitely 1 id recommend
  • Beautiful Albania

    Charlotte S. August 2026
This tour was a wonderful adventure through such a stunning country, and I would recommend it to anyone. The activities were amazing, organisation was seamless, the food was exceptional and all accomodation was fantastic. Both guides, Endri and Emiljano, did such a wonderful job. They managed to make our trip very memorable whilst dealing with some difficult guests with such grace and patience that I certainly wouldn’t be able to do. Loved it and will be back to Albania for sure!
  • An incredible week of new experiences

    Rachael G. August 2026
I absolutely loved this trip. Albania is a beautiful and fascinating country, and the itinerary was a brilliant mix of activities, scenery and experiences. From hiking through spectacular landscapes to kayaking, rafting, swimming and jumping into rivers, it felt like a proper adventure and gave us the chance to see and experience so much in a relatively short time. A huge part of what made the week so enjoyable was our guide, Endri. He was warm, knowledgeable, fun and clearly incredibly passionate about Albania and about sharing his country with us. I particularly appreciated the way he encouraged us to push ourselves and step outside our comfort zones without ever making it feel forced. I have a real fear of heights, and somehow by the end of the week he had me scrambling over rocks, climbing up cliffs and jumping into a river from a height I would normally have taken one look at and immediately refused! I came away feeling genuinely proud of some of the things I had managed to do. I also think Endri deserves particular credit for the patience and professionalism he showed throughout the week. We unfortunately had three very difficult and, at times, rather entitled members of our group who, following a couple of minor hiccups on the first day, seemed determined to find fault with almost every aspect of the trip. At times, activities that were clearly described as part of an active adventure holiday became a source of complaint when individuals found them more physically challenging than they had expected. Rather than simply acknowledging their own limits and discussing with the guide before we started, this was too often presented as a problem with the activity, the itinerary or the guide. This inevitably created a difficult group dynamic at times, and I was particularly uncomfortable with the way Endri was occasionally spoken to when he was doing everything he could to accommodate different needs and abilities. He continued to offer help, find alternatives and make adjustments wherever possible, while remaining unfailingly calm and courteous. His efforts to make sure everyone still had a good experience were very much noticed and appreciated by the rest of us. He dealt with some extremely challenging behaviour with a level of grace and patience that I certainly would not have managed! For anyone considering this trip, I would absolutely recommend it. It is an active adventure holiday, so come prepared to walk, climb, paddle, get wet, challenge yourself and occasionally find things difficult – that is part of what makes it so rewarding. You don’t need to be an elite athlete (I’m certainly not!), but I do think you need a reasonable level of fitness, a sense of adventure and a willingness to give things a go. I came away having seen a beautiful country, laughed a lot, tried things I genuinely didn’t think I could do and had experiences I’ll remember for years. The memory of Endri teaching us traditional Albanian dancing at a Nona festival will forever make me smile! Albania exceeded my expectations, and Endri was a fantastic ambassador for his country. Thank you for an unforgettable week.
  • A Brilliant Adventure!

    Hannah G. August 2026
I had a wonderful time of this tour. The itinerary was jam packed with fun experiences and Albania was truly beautiful. We had stunning views everyday of our adventure, and the river kayaking and cooking class were particular highlights for me. I found the locals to be friendly and enjoyed all the local guides along the way. Endri was a great guide, showing his passion for Albania and water sports and keeping us safe and happy along the way. He went out of his way to help me on a few occasions to find gluten free food and sort out my phone after I dropped it in the sea. Thank you for a fabulous time!
  • Could have been much better

    Jan L. August 2026
The itinerary read very well and we were very enthusiastic about our trip but it was marred throughout by the guide who was disinterested and disengaged. Getting information from him was a challenge. The bikes were poorly serviced with insufficient battery charge to complete the journeys. No account had been taken of guests sizes so there were insufficient small bikes. Water was not provided during activities until it was demanded by the group then it was supplied intermittently. The main vehicle had electrical problems which meant that the air conditioning system wasn’t functioning properly.
  • The ultimate disaster!

    Clare A. August 2026
The main problem throughout the holiday were the guides attitudes! Unhelpful and dismissive the bikes were badly maintained and several malfunctioned or hadn’t even been charged properly they also didn’t have the correct sizes for the participants the guide ended was completely unhelpful when you had a problem and didn’t even seem to know what allergies the group had on the first night! I have done several bike holidays before this and the attention to detail was lacking o. This one also zero empathy shown to anyone with a problem this has made me really unsure about booking with mba again very disappointing
  • Wonderful Albania

    Hannah B. August 2026
Overall this was a great way to get a taste for Albania - we saw a range of places and experienced some less well known spots. The country is beautiful and the organisation was seamless - pick ups and travel were easy, the guides were knowledgable and approachable and overall the food was varied and delicious. I would love to return to Albania and see some more of the country. Some aspects of the trip could be improved to offer a better experience such as improving planning around the biking. The e-bike sizes didn't match the group and some bikes were poorly maintained. The hot springs day felt a little bit of a waste as we could have explored the canyon rather than having the cooking class for lunch as this cut the time short. Moving that to evening would be good rather than rushing the springs. The packed lunch offered on the hiking day was also disappointing as the sandwich was pretty bland and came with just a piece of fruit - so much fresh produce means a much tastier lunch would not be difficult to organise. That said, our guide worked hard throughout and was excellent.
  • Great fun and fabulous mix of activities

    Sue W. July 2026
This was my first solo trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well organised with a variety of activities and really friendly people. Albania is a beautiful country with very friendly people. Arte , our guide , was great, managing to get us sorted with clear instructions for preparing for the day ahead. Individual guides for the walks were local to the area, and the kayaking and rafting guides were really knowledgeable about the area as well as the activity. We managed to see different areas with a good mix of mountains, rivers and the sea. The holiday description matched what we did. I would recommend this holiday and will be looking for further trips with Much Better Adventures.
  • Beautiful Albania

    Lara S. July 2026
This trip was the perfect mix of the best parts of Albania. There was so much to do! The highlights for me were the gorgeous views from the mountains on our hikes, rafting/kayaking/swimming in the rivers and sea, and all the delicious and fresh foods (as well as learning how to make them)! Arti, our guide, and Aldo, our rafting guide, were so much fun, and shared so much of the history of Albania with us. The trip was catered to majority levels of mobility and fitness. Albania is truly an undiscovered gem! Would highly recommend this trip, and will definitely be back!
  • The best Albania adventure!

    Kayleigh w. July 2026
Absolutely brilliant few days. From the accommodation to all the activities, we felt so well looked after by our guide Arti. He showed us everything Albania has to offer, and has so much knowledge. The bike rides and hikes was great fun and well thought out. The kayaking and rafting was brilliant, and we were well looked after by Aldo - who also got us some great photos! Everything was well planned, not rushed and gave us a good amount of activities and down time. Exploring Albania has been one of my favourites holidays, and absorbing the culture of the wonderful food and cooking class made it all the more real. Id highly recommend Albania rafting company, and especially Arti and Aldo. Thank you for making this such a great week!

    Nisha K. July 2026
Great country, brilliant food, excellent tour guide, what’s not to like? Arti was super accommodating to me and my parents, we had a fantastic time and we would come back in an instant. Thank you for having us!
  • Albanian Adventure

    Beatrice G. July 2026
My friends and I (a group of three) joined the Ultimate Adventure in Albania in June 2026, and the experience was excellent from start to finish! The activities were perfectly planned, challenging, and fun. All of the included meals were delicious, and our accommodations were incredibly comfortable—we particularly loved the glamping site. A special shout-out goes to our host, Arti, who was so knowledgeable and proud to share his love for Albania. He gave excellent restaurant recommendations for our free evenings and was incredibly patient and caring with group members who were less confident during the activities. He also went above and beyond by helping us organize our onward travel for the extra few days we spent in Albania after the tour. Arti managed all logistics and schedules flawlessly, handling a very diverse group of characters with absolute confidence. Thank you, Arti!

Overall, weather conditions down by the coast should be pretty favourable in the months when this trip is scheduled to run, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures ranging from 18 to 26°C on average. However, as always, Mother Nature is unpredictable so the best you can do is to be prepared for anything and come equipped with sunscreen, a hat and waterproofs. Your host will be monitoring the weather conditions during the course of the trip and may suggest alternative, safer routes or activities should the weather get particularly bad or should the water conditions be unsuitable for the rafting and kayaking. The Llogara National Park sits on alpine heights and forms a weather divide between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas; as such, the park is prone to rapid weather changes and cooler temperatures.

Tap water in Albania is generally not safe to drink. You may find purified water in some of the accommodation which you can use to fill up each morning, so be sure to pack a reusable water bottle or two. To avoid plastic waste where filtered water is not available, we suggest bringing water purification tablets (or an alternative purification system) for extra safety.

Albania enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate, making it an ideal destination for outdoor adventures from April to October. During this period, temperatures are generally mild to warm, with daytime highs ranging from 22-26°C in spring (April to late May) and autumn (September to October). These are perfect months for hiking, cycling, and exploring Albania’s stunning landscapes. In the summer months (June to August) temperatures can soar, especially in coastal areas like Qeparo and the valley around Permet, with highs often reaching 30°C or more. However, water-based activities like kayaking, rafting, and wild swimming are the perfect way to stay cool and energised, even if you are visiting during the hotter months. Although Albania enjoys abundant sunshine, occasional rain showers are possible at any time of the year, so it’s always a good idea to pack for all conditions.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 314kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust (opens in new tab) to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre (opens in new tab) programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here (opens in new tab).
