Detailed Logistics

Transfers

You’ll be picked up by your host on arrival at Krakow Airport at 17:00, then transferred across the border into Slovakia en route to your first base – the village of Stará Lesná in the Tatras Mountains. On Day 7, you'll be driven back to Krakow Airport and dropped off in time for any flights departing after 17:30.

Travel options

There are regular flights to Krakow from major airports across the UK and Europe.

Your group arrival and departure transfers are relatively long (150km/approximately 3 hours) and include a border crossing. For this reason, private transfers are not usually offered by your host, as the cost is prohibitive – you are encouraged to join the group arrival and departure transfers.

As the first and last days of your adventure are full days and the traffic between Krakow Airport and the city is usually heavy, it is not possible to be picked up or dropped off at a city hotel. However, public transport between the city and the airport is very good. There is a train that leaves once or twice per hour, which takes 17 minutes and is very economical.

Alternatively, there are a small number of flights between the UK and Poprad-Tatry Airport. Private transfers between this airport and your starting/finishing point are not available, however, the cost of a taxi is approximately 15-25 EUR one way.

Trip level explained

Level 3

Moderate

In the Tatras Mountains, you’ll cover around 18km of uneven terrain each day with as much as 1,000m of ascent, so a moderate level of fitness is needed to enjoy it to the full. Some hikes also include short sections of scrambling and on one day there is a steep 30m section with a chain to hold onto to help with this. There are also a few sections where you will be walking on a hillside and traversing a steep peak with a drop on one side of the path. Whilst prior experience is recommended, it’s not required to enjoy this section of the trip.

In the Slovak Paradise National Park, you'll be covering 11-17km each day across uneven terrain, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended to enjoy it to the full. However, elevation gains are more modest (400-700m) and while the trails are complex, you'll be moving at a slow pace.

The ladders, catwalks and ledges (some of which are quite narrow) are very sturdy and secure; however, you should be comfortable with heights. Imagine climbing up to the third story of a building on a ladder: if you can do that, you'll be fine and your guide will never be far away.

What will I need to carry?

You'll need a daypack for each day of hiking, with 20-30 litres of capacity for your lunch, extra layers/waterproofs, water bottle(s) and any other personal items. Your main luggage can stay in the hotel each day throughout the trip.

Wildlife Factors To Consider

This trip visits locations where wild animals are present in a natural environment, where protections and controls on their movement may be limited or non-existent. Some wild animals may be predatory in nature, poisonous, venomous or otherwise can be considered dangerous in a close encounter. Wild animals by their nature are unpredictable and visitors to their habitat should follow the safety instructions given by their local guide(s) and/or any signage present. It is a privilege to see wild animals in a natural environment and an experience that should be respectfully conducted at all times.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

My partner and I really enjoyed our hiking experience in the Tatras. E got really lucky with the weather and enjoyed the stunning autumn foliage throughout the mountains. Our guide Ondrej was very experienced, funny and knowledgeable about both the trail and the history of the places we visited. Our hotels were clean and comfortable and gave us excellent food throughout. We couldn't recommend the experience enough.

  • Julian H.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip to the Slovakian Tatra’s with much better adventures. Everything went smoothly, our guide Ondrej was excellent and went above and beyond with every detail. The accommodation and food was superb and we all got along really well as a group. The trip was graded well as a level 3 and I would happily recommend this trip to anyone looking for a few days in the high Tatra’s and a few days in the gorges of the Slovakian paradise. The other thing to mention that was worth the visit were the Thermal Pools that Ondrej took us all too.

I had a fantastic trip in the Slovakian Tatras and Slovakian Paradise. The views were absolutely stunning, the food was plentiful and delicious, and our guide Ondrej was brilliant, knowledgeable and supportive throughout the trip. The group was also great, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Everything came together to make it a memorable adventure, and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an amazing mountain experience!

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip and I’d do it again in a heartbeat! Very well organised from MBA, the scenery was breathtaking, our guide Patrik was superb and I was very lucky to end up with lovely people and fabulous weather. 10/10 all round from me!

I joined this trip at the end of September and couldn't have asked for better conditions.. sunny, crisp weather and quiet trails. Our guide Patrik was incredible. He was kind and patient, and communicated everything clearly with us. His passion for hiking and for sharing this landscape was clear. This was my first MBA trip, and I'm already looking forward to the next!

I had a really good time. The key things I would flag. Accommodation and provided food were excellent. Fero our guide was excellent. The hike locations were excellent. The hot springs trip was really good, though alot more modern than I expected! The hikes have some novel parts to them, including some ladders and ridges etc. These were fun and different to other trips I have done. Overall the challenge of the hikes was appropriate for "Moderate", the distance and challenge feels very accessible.

  • Ed C.

Rolling green hills and snow-capped mountains, unreasonably so it would seem. Hotel rooms were good, Miro the guide also. Walks were tough , lots of looking down because of the gradients and rocks. Food ok, just so in places but the breakfasts were good. I would happily recommend this trip.

  • Zoe K.

Would highly recommend this trip. Really good hikes, beautiful views, and fun filled days! Met some of the nicest people. And our guide fero really looked after us! I cant think of a single negative thing to say about this trip *****

  • Richard S.

Great trip to Slovakia, no complaints and Fero was a fantastic guide for the group. Hotels good and meals were hearty. Not sure about the heads on some of those pints though!

  • Mary J.

My first solo holiday, and MBA didn’t fail to impress. The stunning scenery in Slovakia took my breath away. I have made some amazing new friends too. Patric our guide was fantastic, he was patient, informative and adjusted the hikes as needed. We had beautiful weather and so got to see some spectacular views up in the mountains. I didn’t want the hikes to end and wished I could of done more. I am already looking for my next adventure.

    Laura U. September 2026
This was my first time on an MBA trip, and it will now be the first of many! Scenery and hikes were just what I hoped they would be and everything was well-organised without feeling too rigid. Rocky terrain may be a little challenging for some if not used to it but there were plenty of breaks; I'd also say you need some head for heights on this trip. A favourite day was definitely in Slovak Paradise National park, which is basically an adventure playground for adults! Our group gelled really well and our guide Patrik was incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and just made the whole trip so easy and enjoyable. Am already recommending to friends and planning my next trip!

Incredible Week in Slovakia! 🇸🇰🥾 Just got back from an absolute cracker of a week in Slovakia! Honestly, we had the most amazing time from start to finish. Everything was absolutely spot on—the hotels were great, the food was lovely, and the hiking was just incredible. If you’ve been thinking about doing this trip, do not miss it. It’s fabulous. A massive shoutout to our guide, Patrik, who was brilliant. He was so knowledgeable, great fun, and always kept us fully in the loop. If the weather turned, he instantly had a backup plan ready to go. You can tell he truly cares about everyone in the group and is incredibly passionate about nature, walking, and showing off Slovakia. It really shone through. Would 100% recommend this trip to anyone. Brilliant memories!

What a week. The Tatras mountains and Slovak Paradise Park are some of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and it is clear how well protected and cared for they are. Patrik was the best guide we could have asked for. Extremely kind, patient, knowledgeable and a lot of fun! I had such an amazing time and would recommend it to everyone.

  • Wonderful week in Slovakia hiking

    Abbey R. August 2026
I had a really fantastic week hiking in the High Tatras and Paradise National Park. Tom was our guide and was just wonderful. He was so knowledgeable about the local area and very attentive to our group, but was also so interesting to talk to re Slovakian history and culture. I learnt a lot! The hiking was great and the scenery so special. It felt like we were a million miles away from home, getting lost in all the wild beauty. The gorge walking with the ladders was a nice change and made for something a little different. We had a fun group and lots of laughs which really made the trip even better. Really recommend this trip to anyone.
  • This was a well organised

This was a well organised trip. Tom was a great guide, he made sure everyone was safe, prepared and enjoyed their days. He is very knowledgeable about all things Slovakia and hiking. Our group was fun. The hotels and locations were good. I thought the actual hiking was easy as it’s a slow pace.
  • Great trip

    Anne M. August 2026
This was a really good trip, split into two. The first, three days in the high Tatras and the second three days in a different area gorge walking. Patrik was a great guide, attentive and knowledgeable about hiking in Slovakia. We all had lots of fun and saw some beautiful scenery in Slovakia. A highly recommended trip. .
  • It went great!

    Amanda Z. August 2026
It was a wonderful trip! We got super lucky - our group was talkative and had a great sense of humor, and the weather was great. The hikes were beautiful, we got to swim in the lakes twice - our guide Patrik made sure we had everything we needed. 100% reccommend!
  • The mountains and gorges

Fantastic week of hiking in the high Tatras then the second half in Paradise National Park with its bridges and ladders. Patrik our guide was brilliant showing us the best parts of area. I would highly recommend this trip.
  • We truly got to know Slovakia, whilst meeting a great group of hikers!

    Sophie B. August 2026
Honestly had such a fun trip in Slovakia. Beautiful hikes, challenging at times - had never hiked along gorges before - it was SO much fun! And opportunities to wild swim too. When we were looking to book our second Much Better Adventures holiday, we had actually shortlisted both of the shorter Slovakian trips, so this one really ended up being the best of both: Tatra Mountains and Paradise National Park. Our time away flew and just writing this, I really wish I could do it all again - I think that says it all. Patrik was a fantastic tour guide. Super engaged with our group, and made sure we all had the best time together - choo choo… 🤣 He was able to adapt the hike on day one due to potential thunderstorms, which we really appreciated - he truly cared and we knew from the get go that we were in safe hands. We all really valued his advice. We met an incredible group of people and our last night will be one to remember for years to come. Thank you for a fantastic trip.
  • An Amazing Trip, All Of It!

    Alan W. August 2026
From start to end, the entire trip was amazing. Slovakia is a lovely place and the hikes were all memorable - really good variety - from mountains, to forests, to lakes, to gorges. Our host, Patrik was incredible - I cannot rate him highly enough, and he certainly exceeded expectations. Patrik was very organised, adaptable and was a great communicator. He was fun to be around, yet we all felt safe and laid back. The group I was with was great - 8 people was a nice number, with lots of opportunity to socialise over meals, during walks and other free time. The itinerary was great, and each day there was still room to do more, yet also have some downtime - each day had multiple highlights. I am gutted that the trip had to end as it was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. I would highly recommend this trip to anybody looking for some adventure, some variety, and an opportunity to meet likeminded people. One final shoutout to Patrik for being such a great host - the best I’ve ever had.
  • Unforgettable Trip

    Britny K. August 2026
Our guide Patrik led an unforgettable journey thought Tatras National Park and Paradise National Park. He was knowledgeable, flexible, and supportive throughout the experience. Our hikes were dynamic - ranging from short and steep, to long with views, to playful with ladders in a gorge. After every hike we were able to enjoy food and a brew with our amazing group, before venturing off for wild swims, town walks, and group dinners. Loved every moment of this trip and could not have replicated it on my own. So thankful to MBA, Patrik and my fellow travelers for this 10/10 experience ! I will definitely be booking with MBA again.
  • Far Surpassed Expectations

    Emily F. August 2026
My week in Slovakia far surpassed expectations! What an incredible week. Our local guide Patrik was awesome, so experienced, fun and took such good care of our group. Every hiking day was different: scrambley gorges, dramatic peaks, rolling meadows and luscious forests. This trip has it all. If you are torn between visiting the High Tatras or Paradise National Park, I would have to recommend both in this week long trip!! Slovakia - what an undiscovered treasure. ❤️

You'll need to bring all your luggage with you, however on each day of hiking your main luggage can be left in the hotels in Stará Lesná and Levoča. You will only need to have a daypack for each day of hiking.

The local tap water is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottles (at least 1.5L) to fill up to avoid buying single-use plastic bottles.

This trip takes place in environments where wild animals are present in their natural environment, where protections and controls on their movement may be limited or non-existent. Some species may be dangerous, venomous, or unpredictable. Sightings are a privilege – but safety is key. Always follow your guide’s instructions and any posted signage.

We recommend considering your comfort around wildlife and discussing any concerns with your host before travel, particularly if you have allergies, phobias, or related health conditions.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with (opens in new tab). You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website (opens in new tab), where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).

For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information (opens in new tab) and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

The High Tatras in summer are beautiful and relatively warm. From June to August the average daytime temperature on a sunny day can be 20 - 30 °C but it cools down considerably at night time. It rains approximately 12 days each month, totalling 80mm monthly. Spring and autumn temperatures are a little cooler, ranging from 4 – 13 °C, but it is also drier (just 60mm monthly). The Slovak Paradise National Park in summer is at lower elevation so will be a little warmer.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 153kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust (opens in new tab) to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre (opens in new tab) programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here (opens in new tab).
