Your airport transfer will whisk you off to your hotel in Ubud, the cultural capital of Bali. If you’ve got the time and energy, there’s plenty to explore nearby: from ancient temples and prolific gardens, to the spectacular landscape of rice fields and the famous Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Join your group and your guide later for dinner at a local restaurant, where you can sample Indonesian cuisine and get to know your fellow adventurers.
Day 2
Cycle past villages, temples and caves in Kintamani
Cycling3hrs · 30km · 90m up · 90m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Enjoy an early breakfast, then drive for about an hour to Pukuk village in the Kintamani region, one of the most scenic areas in Bali. Soak up the pace of rural Balinese life as you pedal along village roads and dirt tracks with stops to visit a Balinese house compound and Panempahan Temple, an 11th-century village temple. Leaving the road behind for a while, take a dirt track through rice fields to Goa Garba Cave and explore this former royal meditation site. Ride for another hour on small roads and tracks to your endpoint at Samuan Tiga Temple. Return to your hotel after lunch and enjoy a leisurely afternoon by the pool, or explore more of Ubud's enchanting sights and temples.
Day 3
Hike the waterfalls of Bali's 'Secret Garden'
Hiking4hrs · 8km · 700m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Rise early and drive north to the untouched ‘Secret Gardens' of Sambangan, where lush jungles, natural pools, clear rivers and cascading waterfalls await. The hike will start from Bali's secluded and picturesque highlands, where you'll find authentic villages rarely seen by travellers. Hike past emerald green rice terraces, local farms and coffee plantations, before heading deep into the forest. Here, you'll discover some of the island’s most spectacular waterfalls, surrounded by lush trees and exotic flowers. Enjoy a barbecue lunch (weather permitting), then cool off in the rejuvenating natural pools. Head back to Ubud in the afternoon, and get some well deserved rest before tomorrow's exciting journey to the island of Flores.

To Flores Island

Hop on a flight from Denpasar to the town of Labuan Bajo, located on the rugged island of Flores. Flights are usually direct to Labuan Bajo and the total flight time is approximately 1.5 hours. Continue your journey by vehicle for a three-hour transfer to the village of Repi. Locals here are the direct descendants of the Wae Rebo people, who you'll visit tomorrow. Wander around the village and see daily life in this remote farming community, then settle in for the night at a spectacular cliff-top camp site overlooking the sea.
Day 5
Trek to Wae Rebo

Wake up to the sound of waves, fuel up on breakfast and enjoy an optional early morning walk to a remote beach. Get driven to a trailhead on the remote roads along the south of Flores, from where you'll hike to the isolated village of Wae Rebo, nestled in an ancient volcanic caldera and surrounded by panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest. Wae Rebo is a true example of successful community-based tourism - here, the locals use your visit to supplement their traditional agricultural lifestyles and help keep their customs alive. You'll be welcomed by the elders and offered a drink of wild-harvest Luwak coffee. This evening, you'll enjoy one of the best homestay experiences in Asia as you snooze in one of the Wae Rebo's traditional, conical-shaped huts.
Day 6
The gateway to Komodo National Park

Spend the morning in Wae Rebo village, then hike back down to your pick-up point for the drive to Pante Hera, where you'll stop for lunch on a clifftop overlooking a long, sandy beach and the Savu Sea. There may be time for a quick dip before hitting the road again, to reach the port town of Labuan Bajo. Enjoy a sunset walk on the beach or relax by the pool - there'll be time this evening to refresh and prepare for your liveaboard boat adventure in the Komodo National Park.

Board your boat - home for the next few nights. You'll get acquainted with your kayak and begin your island-hopping journey. Visit Rangko Beach to explore a secret cave with a deep turquoise pool. If time and conditions permit, plunge into the underwater world with your snorkel before spending your first night on board – don’t forget to look up and take in the blanket of stars overhead.
(Due to the currents and changing tides in the Komodo National Park, the schedule for the activities during your liveaboard is flexible and will be adjusted accordingly to ensure your safety and enjoyment.)

Before You Travel
What to Pack

Know before you go! Some stuff we'll provide, other things you'll need to bring.
FAQs
What are the kayaks like?
There is a mix of double and single kayaks. The single kayaks are Kazakazi Skua touring kayaks with a maximum weight limit of 160kg. The double (tandem) kayaks are "HUG" touring kayaks with a maximum capacity of 210kg.
What do I do about drinking water?
Clean drinking water will be provided throughout. Please pack your own reusable bottle, it will be well used.
Can I leave my excess luggage somewhere?
Your luggage can stay with you for the whole trip and will be transported for you. If you are staying longer in Bali, you can leave some things at the hotel at the beginning of the trip if needed. We would advise you to pack light due to the amount of transfers in the trip.
What's the luggage allowance on the internal flight?
20kg is the standard luggage allowance on the internal flights but extra weight can easily purchased if needed.
What shall I expect while sailing in Komodo National Park?
Life on the boat is all about kayaking, snorkelling, eating and sleeping. Each day is a mix between action packed activities for all levels and leisure time. All water activities are supervised by the dinghy boat in case anyone wants to cut them short and they are also entirely optional, so you are free to take things at your own pace. Evenings can be spent enjoying other travellers' company or stargazing.
How much should I tip?
Tips are not included in the trip cost and are not expected by the crew. If you have extra support throughout the trekking element, there may be an expectation for a little something. Small gifts from home are always appreciated instead.
Hot climate: what factors should I consider?
This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.
Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

What's the weather like?
Komodo and the surrounding islands are one of Indonesia’s driest regions. The rainy season is short and tends to run from January to mid-march. April to June is a great time to visit the islands as they are full of life and extremely green, post-rain. Temperatures range from 26-31c and nights are usually cooler and fresh. July to August can get a little warmer and rainfall is barely heard of as things start to get hot and dusty on the island.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 1023kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
