Day 1
From Athens to Evia
HotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Touch down in Athens and meet your host at the airport for a group transfer to Agia Marina, a small port close to Athens and the town of Marathon. Hop on the ferry here for a short ride across the Petalioi Gulf to reach Evia Island, docking at Nea Styra. Then drive a short way down the coast to reach your base in Marmari. Settle in before heading out for a welcome dinner at a nearby taverna for your first of many Greek feasts and a chat about the adventure to come with your guides.
Day 2
Yoga, hikes and wild swims
Hiking2hrs · 6km · 150m up · 150m downYoga2hrsDriving2.5hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Enjoy your first restorative morning at your base, with expansive Aegean views greeting you before your first yoga session of the trip. Your instructor will guide you through each class tailored to complement the week of hiking ahead, with a mix of Hatha and restorative yoga sessions at various points this week. After breakfast, you'll head off for a warm-up hike in the Manikia area - an up-and-coming climbing destination with amazing rock formations. Your guide will lead the group on a hike through the evolving scenery here to reach the waterfalls of the Manikiatis River. Enjoy a picnic lunch and some downtime at this idyllic spot where you can swim in the natural pools. Wrap up the final kilometres of an easy-going hike with a visit to an award-winning beekeeping farm, where you’ll discover how fresh organic honey is made. Back at the base this afternoon, you'll wind down with another yoga class before settling in for an evening meal at a nearby taverna.
Day 3
Hike to the peak of Mount Ochi
Hiking4-5hrs · 12km · 900m up · 900m downYoga1.5hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Kick things off with a morning yoga session, using stretching and breathing exercises to restore your body and mind before tackling a bigger hike. Mount Ochi is one of the highest points on Evia and is known as 'the mountain of springs' due to the natural water sources which run from the mountains throughout the year. You'll set off on a hike through the green and rugged mountainous landscape to reach the summit of Mount Ochi just shy of 1400m above sea level. On the summit of the mountain, you will have the opportunity to explore the best-preserved 'Drakospita' or Dragon Houses of Evia. Drakospita are dwellings built by Ancient Greeks at the top of the mountain, using huge pieces of rock from the area and blessed with 360-degree views over the valley towards the distant blue of the Aegean. Hike back to the trailhead and return to base for some downtime. Join a yoga session to stretch out the limbs after the 4–5 hours of hiking, then unwind with sundowners and dinner at the base tonight.
Day 4
Dimosaris Gorge
Hiking5hrs · 12km · 800m up · 800m downYoga1.5hrsWild Swimming1hrDriving2hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
Gently ease into the day with your morning yoga class overlooking the Aegean, perhaps grab a dip in the pool before another sumptuous breakfast at your base before setting off to the area around Dimosaris Gorge on the eastern slopes of Mount Ochi. An incredible trail awaits, winding alongside the river beneath towering peaks. This moderately challenging hike leads you through an evolving landscape to waterfalls and natural pools, perfect for wild swims. This whole area feels really alive, with lush green ferns and wildflowers blanketing the terrain, and the sound of running water ever present as you reach the falls and pools. Settle in with your yoga instructor later in the afternoon before heading to a seaside taverna nearby - if you're not done with swimming yet today you can bring your swimsuit for a dip in the sea before or after dinner.
Day 5
A gorge hike to reach a secluded Evia beach
Hiking3hrs · 7km · 180m up · 180m downYoga2hrsWild Swimming1-2hrsDriving2hrsHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Head north from your base to the trailhead in the village of Agios Dimitrios. Today’s hike explores one of southern Evia’s most beautiful areas, the Agios Dimitrios Gorge, known for its rich wildflowers, trees, and ever-changing views as you head towards the coast. Your efforts are rewarded as the trail reaches a remote beach only accessible by hiking or a dirt road, with no taverns or accommodations around. Turquoise waters invite you for a dreamy swim in the Aegean as you soak up this secluded spot with a picnic on the beach and some downtime with less hiking to get through today. Lap up this memorable spot before heading back to base for a final restorative yoga session. Wrap up the evening with your fellow adventurers, enjoying more delicious Greek and Mediterranean dishes, and perhaps a glass or two of organic wine to toast a perfect day.
Day 6
Farewell Evia

Your time on beautiful Evia Island ends today. Enjoy a final breakfast with stunning views before your host takes you to the port for the ferry back to the mainland. From there, continue to Athens, where your host will drop you at the airport for onward flights or in downtown Athens if you’re staying longer.

Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your guide will help with advice, however we suggest the below as a guideline per person for your main guides:
€5 per day
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service. Tipping the yoga instructor is totally optional, but not expected.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional food and drinks, shopping and laundry.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures and you are required to provide your policy information before departing. Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. FAQs
Is this a 'serious' retreat?
Absolutely not! This is far from a standard yoga retreat. Don't expect to follow a rigid and strict activity schedule or a restrictive detoxing diet. This adventure was designed for people who practice and love yoga, or who are just curious about it and want to experience the amazing benefits it brings for the first time. But it’s also fun, with plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding nature trails on foot, and enjoy delicious food and wine, all in the company of like-minded people. Relaxing and not taking yourself too seriously is kind of mandatory here!
What type of yoga is it?
The sessions will be a based around Ashtanga - a dynamic form of yoga characterised by a fixed sequence of postures that are performed in a specific order, with a focus on breath coordination and movement. Your experienced instructor will guide you through the sessions and combine the yoga with guided meditations to compliment the body and mind elements of the practice: ideal to relax after a hike, to recover the body and energy for the next day.
What if things don't go to plan?
Your host has been operating trips on Evia Island for many years, so if conditions aren't suitable for any of the day hikes you'll head to an alternative part of the island for a replacement hike. We don't run this trip during the peak summer months of July and August when Evia can get uncomfortably hot, indeed there have been wildfires on Evia during these months in the recent past. As such extreme heat shouldn't be a factor, however, unexpected heatwaves can occur and your host will factor this into any Plan B considerations.
What do I do about drinking water?
The tap water on Evia Island is safe to drink, so you can freely fill up at your hotel base throughout the trip. Make sure to bring along a water bottle with 1-2 litres of carrying capacity to ensure you have water in your daypack for each of the hikes.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
There will be one lead hiking guide, and expert yoga instructors for each of the yoga sessions.
Can I leave my excess luggage somewhere?
This trip has a single base throughout, so you can leave your luggage in your room the whole time and take a day pack out on each day hike.
Hot climate: what factors should I consider?
This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme highs, where limited shade and high humidity can also be a factor. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but hydration, proper clothing, and sun protection are essential.
Before travelling, consider your ability to be active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have concerns – especially if you have any cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two prior to the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

What's the weather like?
Evia Island enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate. The spring months of April and May have pleasant temperatures with increasing warmth and longer daylight hours. During these months expect average lows around 16°C (61°F) and highs up to 28°C (73.4°F) and around 10-11 hours of sunshine per day. Sea temperature is around 17°C (62.6°F) in April, warming to 19°C (66.2°F) in May.
The late summer and early autumn months of September and October are also excellent times to visit Evia for great weather and lower visitor numbers. September has average lows of around 20°C (68°F) and highs up to 30°C (86°F), with things cooling off in October with lows of 16°C (60.8°F) and highs up to 20°C (68°F). Sea temperatures are beautiful for swimming in at 24°C (75°F) in September and 22°C (72°F) in October.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 139kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
